A child is missing. The Poconos police are searching everywhere. As a 100-year comet passes through the atmosphere above, it causes electrical disruptions in town. Peter Collins, a young teen, awakens one night to find his bedroom Christmas lights glowing. The comet transforms his bedroom into a magical portal that takes him to the missing kid. The Comet
Thursday morning. School day.
Peter Collins sat down at his desk and opened his backpack. Within it, there was an assortment of items that his dad had packed for him – a wide-ruled notebook, pencil sharpener, a large, rectangular eraser, a few novels for English class, and a box of tissues. It was amazing that his dad remembered everything this time.
These days, his dad worked extra hours at the town’s coal power plant to make a decent wage. Peter’s mom had passed away a few years back from cancer, so a single income made things difficult these days. Often, Peter had to do all the chores around the house, cook dinner, and walk their little bichon, Max, for his late afternoon and evening bathroom trips. Prepping Peter’s backpack in the morning was the most his dad could remember these days.
Class was just about to start, as Peter finally succeeded in dislodging a piece of bubble gum from the underside of his desk. It was planted just above his right knee.
Everyone, quiet down!
Mr. Beach commanded. He was a seasoned fifth grade teacher at Poconos Elementary school. He had been teaching the Earth and Space class for going on twenty years now.
