    Mrs. Davis leaned on the front of her desk trying to keep the class focused on the oral essay assignment as they all squirmed in their seats. The class stared at the clock in front of the room, watching the hands inching closer to three and the freedom of summer vacation.

    Eli finished reading his essay and there were only two students left to read, Tom and Aaron.

    Aaron, you’re next, Mrs. Davis said.

    Aaron slid out of his chair and shuffled up to the front of the class. During summer vacation I plan on going to the pool, play games outside in the dark, and my mom is making me visit my Aunt Frieda. I don’t like visiting her because her house smells of moth balls and biscuits…
