It has become one of the highlights of my day because I drink more coffee than the average person, especially now.

Good morning, Detective Lawson, the barista says as I walk up to the counter.

Your usual? she asks.

Yes, please.

You got it. One large Colombian coffee with triple espresso shot and a low-fat blueberry muffin coming right up.

With my coffee in my hand and my bag on my shoulder, I walk into the station and head to my office. The morning sunlight filtered through the blinds and painted intricate patterns across the worn surface of my cluttered desk. Papers, photographs, and files cluttered the space, each one a piece of the puzzle in the latest case to land on my desk. I sit my bag down on top of the file cabinet after I take out my muffin. I let out a deep sigh before breaking a piece off and putting it in my mouth.

I start to look over the papers on my desk and pick up some to add to the already cluttered cork board of information hanging on my wall. I stand with my hands on my hips, staring at the board as a wave of anticipation washes over me as I pored over the details of the investigation, my mind already racing with the possibilities that lay ahead.
