Chanakyasutrani Volume II - Subhamoy Das
Poems by Subhamoy Das
Chanakya Said...
The leader stood before his team,
Just a bunch of people, it would seem,
But with varied skills to run businesses,
And different strengths and weaknesses.
He knew that he had to assign
The tasks that would make them shine,
And bring out the best in each one,
And make sure that the work was done.
He looked at everyone carefully,
And assessed their abilities,
And then he gave them tasks to do,
That they could handle and see through.
The first one was a creative soul,
Who could make ideas roll...
So, he gave him a task to envision,
To design a new consumer solution.
The second one was good with words,
And could write like the bards,
So, he gave her a task to write
A copy for customer delight.
The third one was a numbers guy,
Who could analyze and simplify,
So, he gave him a task to crunch,
Raw data that was in a bunch.
The fourth one was a people's person,
Who could connect with everyone,
So, he gave her the task to lead
The team that was in dire need.
The fifth one was a tech whiz,
Who could code and make things fizz,
So, he wanted him to build a platform
And a killer app to outperform.
And the team began to work together,
Each one assigned a task they could do better,
But within their strengths and abilities,
And guided by the leader's sensibilities.
And soon enough, the work was done,
While the team had a lot of fun,
And the leader knew that he has won,
By assigning tasks that were well-spun.
For he had followed Chanakya's rule,
And made sure that each one was a jewel,
And that they shone in their own way,
Enabling the team to win every day.
Chanakya said, "A leader should be able
To identify the strengths, and enable
His team members to use them well,
And make sure that they excel."
Chanakya’s words, the leader did apply,
Ensuring that all of them comply
With the team’s rules, worked in sync,
And never missed a wink.
Chanakya said, "Among the leaders’ duties
Are to assess their team members' abilities,
Assign tasks that are appropriately suited,
And ensure they are well-executed."
Chanakya’s words, the leader did recall,
Ensuring that each one was on the ball
With their goals defined, worked in sync,
And never missed a wink.
Chanakya said, "A leader should be
Able to assign tasks appropriately,
And ensure they are properly done,
And that the team also had some fun."
Chanakya’s words, the leader since followed,
With adequate fun and free time allowed
They enjoyed the journey, worked in sync,
And never missed a wink.
Chanakya said, "A leader should be
Able to motivate his team members, you see,
And make sure that they are inspired,
And that their spirits are never tired."
Chanakya’s words, the leader did remember,
And made sure that each team member
Was always at their best, worked in sync,
And never missed a wink.
And so, the team truly spelt success,
Ever ready to grow and drive the business,
And the leader knew that he has won,
With Chanakya's rules, his job was done.

1. The Prince
They say that noble blood runs in his veins,
A strength of will that echoes in his name,
A legacy of fortune, wealth, and fame,
Are these enough for him to take the reins?
He asks himself, reflecting with a frown,
What really makes a king out of a man,
What makes him worthy ruler of a land,
Deserving of his title and his crown?
Unlike all other princes who presume
Their lineage vouch their powers to assume.
2. The Training
His fertile mind is sown with best of seeds
From brilliant mentors seasoned in their fields
The history-makers, the heads of guilds,
Quenching answers his curious young mind needs.
He’s fluent in multiple languages,
Adept at history, art, and science,
He’s mastered every facet of finance,
With access to boundless books of ages.
Proficient in both politics and law,
What else, to be king, does he have to know?
3. The Councilors
The palace is a jungle full of beasts
While there are eagles, lions, and tigers,
There are also hawks, foxes, and vipers,
Vigilantly protecting their own feasts.
Where every move is like a game of chess,
Among the chosen council of elders,
Each with a cunning counsel to offer
Whilst hiding thirst for power and riches.
Who dares defy and rise above the rest
To safeguard a kingdom’s best interest?
4. The Battle
Upon the council’s nudge he wages war
To broaden kingdom’s land to east from west,
Where gold spills from ranges, and crops grow best,
A land teeming with life, wealth, and wonder.
The war is won, but the prince is wounded,
With an arrow tinged of local venom,
No antidote in the entire kingdom,
Except from a fair healer, he’s mended.
‘I’m your enemy, why do you heal me’
Just a faint smile which rewrote history.
5. The Enigma
He brings the healer back to the palace,
With sentiments transcending gratitude,
Or adoration for her fortitude,
But a budding need for her care and grace.
How can she just discern what’s fake and right?
How can she answer all
