About this ebook

Fated mates mean everything - unless they’re the enemy.

Carwyn dreamed of meeting his fated mate. Everyone expected romance from a fae royal, but the second son of the Seelie Queen knew his mate would either save him from the coldness of his mother’s court or trap him all the more within it.

He never expected his mate to be Unseelie. If his mother found out, she’d kill him where he stood, so to save his life, Carwyn cuts the string between them. If that leaves him the scapegoat for all the court’s troubles, all the better for him to rise to power from within the chaos.

But for all his talents, he can’t excise his touch-starved longing to be loved.

When Jokull snuck to a Seelie tourney on a whim, he never expected to meet his mate. Though he only catches a glimpse of Carwyn from afar, Jokull falls head over heels for the prince, which makes the pain all the worse when their cord is cut.

The rage empowered him, aiding him in winning the throne of the Unseelie Court, but even as fae throw themselves at his feet, he cannot forget the man who gazed at him with such horrified longing across the field all those years ago. When a suit for peace gives him Carwyn as his spouse, will Jokull rekindle what might have been? Or will their severed string spell only disaster?

The Fae Prince’s Unseelie King is a gay fantasy romance with mpreg and a HEA.

    Chapter One

Overhead, the bright summer sun beamed down. Carwyn hated how blinding it could be, but with Philippe at his side, he found his normal realism (or pessimism as Philippe would say) overwhelmed with joy. He reveled in what freedoms he had, enjoying the crisp air as his mother, Queen of the Seelie Court, oversaw the tournament with his elder brother Talfryn. Eventually, he would have to attend, but as the younger prince, it was expected for him to go among the people, so Carwyn intended to adore every second.

You’re going to meet your mate. I can feel it, the other fae proclaimed, plucking at Carwyn’s taut red string like his bond to his soulmate was a fiddle. It’ll be passionate! A devastating for the ages sort of romance!

Carwyn laughed, shaking his head. Thank the gods you’re a stringmaster and not a poet.

I think you’ll find I’m right on the money, Philippe huffed. He ran his fingers through the mess of his dark curls.

Fate could guide him in circles for all Carwyn cared. He wanted this day to last. To be free from the weight of his mother’s expectations — from being anything beyond just another Seelie fae. His people were so full of life. They danced and sang, offering sweet treats to the young children who raced from show to show. They waved their banners, calling favors for the knights already. On this bright summer day, the Seelie celebrated their freedom. The unity of their court beyond the realm of Faerie. With the fall of the Unseelie Queen Mae, the Seelie Court found peace. Travelers from Faerie took shelter, helping the Seelie to thrive as war tore apart Faerie.

Groaning, Carwyn shook his head when he realized where Philippe dragged him. Not a knight.

Don’t pretend. You’re smiling, Philippe teased. A big, strong man — you kinky bastard.

Rolling his eyes, the prince didn’t bother to hide his smirk. I’m thin as a slip of parchment. If my mate were smaller than me, I’d be rather concerned.

He’ll be rather concerned when he sees you. I predict he’ll keep you fed on sweet meats and fruit as he keeps you perched on his cock, his friend teased, and when Carwyn punched him in the arm, the stringmaster only laughed harder.

You perverted son of a whore, Carwyn huffed with a cluck of his tongue.

What can I say? Philippe shrugged. I’m a romantic.

They headed up the dusty path to where the knights sat upon their steeds, preparing to charge with those ridiculous long lances. On one end, a knight rode with shimmering armor. Peacock feathers were engraved into the metal, and the colors rippled across as he charged on a white horse. When he went flying, Carwyn cheered despite himself, pleased to see the pompously adorned fae end up sprawled upon his ass.

However, his voice cut off as the other knight’s visor leveled with him. A heavy stare weighed down upon Carwyn, and his mouth went dry. Worn armor decorated the other knight. Though wellkept, it was clear he had seen true battle, and his black horse matched his banners and his wares.

Even before Philippe leaned over and whispered, See — tall, dark, and handsome. Just as promised, Carwyn immediately recognized his mate.

Cheeks heating, Carwyn rolled his eyes. He’s entirely covered. You can’t say he’s handsome.

Well, he’s definitely dark and tall.

Shaking his head, Carwyn forced himself to ignore the weight of his mate’s curious gaze. The tournament would last the next few days, and as tempting as it would be to interrupt, his mother would hold it against both him and his mate for the rest of their lives. Better not to anger her.

Of course, his mate — as it would later turn out, did not agree. Neither Philippe or Carwyn could find the man’s tent, and the knight appeared to disappear after his bouts. With no other choice, Carwyn took to the seat available to him at his brother’s side. The Queen of Seelie watched with her prince consort slightly behind her on the left and her favored son, Talfryn, at her right-hand side. His mate did not attend, ill in her bed once more, which left a chair empty for Carwyn on Talfryn’s right. Not wanting to sit there, Carwyn took up the seat at the prince consort’s left despite the fae looking slightly frustrated by the way it unbalanced the royal podium. Unfortunately for them, it would look awkward and be poorly thought of to the court to switch after the fact, so for the day, Carwyn had won.

Do not think I will forget this, his mother warned. Queen Sylvana did not even bother looking at him as she spoke. Instead, she offered a placid smile to the crowd and a soft nod of approval as the first two knights aligned.

Though his mother could not see his face, Carwyn feigned concern. Forget what, dear mother? I had not wanted to dishonor my sister-in-law by assuming her position. Her absence and suffering should remain in the thoughts and prayers of our people.

We can rearrange for tomorrow, Talfryn reassured her, patting their mother’s hand.

Prince Consort Odran hummed, but he did not speak though his son had assumed his position by the original set-up with his seat being equal to the queen’s while the prince consort was relegated to a lower place. If they reorganized the four seats, Odran would regain his place at his wife’s side.

Holding out her hand for him, the queen allowed her husband to kiss her rings as she sighed. I suppose it would be worse if you had sat in the seat meant for your brother’s fated mate. We shall add another raised dais for my throne and center it between a set of five chairs tomorrow; however, I expect Caitria to join us.

Of course, Mother. I am certain Caitria longs to attend, Talfryn assured her, though the glower he sent at Carwyn behind their mother’s back said well enough what he thought of that.

None of that mattered though as the black knight took his position. They raised their lances to salute, but where his opponent aligned with the queen, the black knight aimed his at Carwyn. Their eyes met, and when the knight charged, unhorsing his opponent ruthlessly, he returned to position with his gaze on the younger prince the entire way.

Do you know that man, Carwyn? Talfryn asked, keeping his eyes on the squires who rushed to assist the fallen opponent.

Carwyn shook his head. I can’t say I do.

Every time the knight saluted, he set his sights upon the second prince of the Seelie. He had no doubt the fae knight knew exactly what he was doing. Over and over, the black knight proved his strength. He won, unhorsing or striking his opponents, until he had made his way into the finals.

Well, there will be no doubt who will win, Odran sighed, leaning back in his seat with disinterest. I suppose we’ll learn who it is then.

I suspect a human, Talfryn drawled.

When the day’s tournament ended, Carwyn raced away as quickly as he could to follow after the knight. He rode toward a tent while he had rode off into the distance the day before. Dismounting, the black knight didn’t bother to tie up his mount; instead, he tossed the reins aside. Large and black as a draft horse, the stallion snorted, shaking his head, and when the black knight chuckled,
