    About the Author

    Little White Lies

The evening light was submitting to the inevitable night. Eve disengaged the COM as the last frames of the alien Adam in the video disappeared from the monitor.

Eve smiled and snuggled back into Richard’s arms. Richard peered into her eyes and brushed a wisp of hair from her forehead.

That is worthy of a Pulitzer Prize in Journalism. he proclaimed with adoration.

She tilted her head and pursed her lips.

You, my dear, don’t get a vote.

No, but I might have some pull to get it nominated. he smirked.

She backhanded his arm and threatened.

    Don’t you dare!

Richard feigned a broken arm, dangling it limply.

Oww! Now, how can I hold you?

She draped his limp arm over her shoulder, Just like this. as she snuggled deeper into his chest.

The COM on the wall flashed an alert.

Richard sighed and said aloud, COM; answer audio.

COM audio engaged. was the response.

Good evening. Richard said, Sal’s voice probed the room.

    Richard?

    Richard recognized the entreaty.

Okay Sal, you found me…so you go hide and I’ll count to ten to give you a head start.

You don’t know how tempting that game would be if I could hide with the Alphas. Maybe then I could understand their real reason for sending the ‘diffusions’ to earth. Sal retorted, Richard slightly furrowed his brows and leans up off of the bed while slowly untangling his arms that he had wrapped around Eve.

Sal, this isn’t going to be a ‘We’ve been blindsided’ conversation is it?

Well yes and mostly no. Sal said, Richard stood up and walked over to a settee. He took a robe that was draped on it and donned it. He walked over to face a monitor. He pressed a button and Sal appeared on the monitor. Richard sat down on a sofa and took a breath.

Okay, Sal how bad is it?

Sal wrinkled his face somewhat and began, Let me back up for a bit. The Alphas have been totally forthcoming about the effects of the diffusions. We are suffering no ill effects from them. And their intent is totally humanitarian, or maybe I should say exo-humanitarian.

Richard’s wrinkled face matched that of Sal’s.

I’ll have to add that word to my lexicon when you give me the definition.

Eve joined Richard, wearing acceptable attire, and sat next to him on the sofa and nodded to Sal.

    Good evening Sal. She offered.

Sal smiled and returned, Good evening to you as well Ms. Walker. I hope I’m not interrupting.

She smiled and replied, I’ve grown accustomed to interruptions, Sal, and you know better than to call me Ms. Walker.

She settled back on the sofa.

Please, I’m intrigued by your new word’s explantation.

Richard chuffed, Sal; quit hitting on my girl and give us the breakdown of your exo-discovery.

Sal shook his head, Trying to one-up me Richard? I’ve got the rights to ‘exo’.

    Eve intervened, Now boys.

Richard smiled, Okay Sal, let’s have it.

Sal paused and took a breath, Okay, but it’s a long walk down this road.

    Richard asked.

Are we gonna need some popcorn?

Sal replied, Yeah, and bring a drink too.

Richard shrugged, I have my walking shoes on.

Sal nodded and began, I’ve been hanging out at Hat Creek with Amir and Dominique, soaking up the signal data stream translations. I had them pull up some of the earliest data streams the Alphas had sent to other systems and retranslate them with the new technology. We were pleasantly surprised to learn that signals from various systems were found to be of credible intelligent design.

Richard said, Okay but, I don’t see a downside to that. That’s great news.

Sal smiled, Richard, we’re still walking.

Richard waved his hands to continue.

"We found that the Alphas are also in communication with the Wolf 1061c, a planet thought to be similar to that of an early Venus.

Richard leaned up and started to utter a response.

Sal held up his hand, Still walking.

Richard nodded and leaned back down.

We only have one-half of the translation, the Alpha side. It implies that the Wolf planet would receive the almost the same ‘diffusion’ to their planet as earth, but only after earth received its diffusion.

Sal paused and Richard sat in thought.

    Sal continued.

On that information I have questions for the Alphas, but they haven’t created an ‘open channel’ for several days. They have sent us their blueprints for their ‘time-wave’ technology but, we haven’t been able to duplicate their technology to send and receive signals on our own time wave.

Richard cocked his head in thought.

Sal, the implication on the surface is that we were guinea pigs, but I believe there is a reasonable explanation.

I agree Richard, but I would not be a scientist if I did not seek an explanation.

Have you told the President about this? Richard asked.

Yes, he was my first call and he is of the same mind that there is no nefarious intent. Sal related, But the better news is that there is apparently more intelligent life on at least one other planet.

You said the other planet that the Alphas contacted was Wolf something, where is it? Eve asked.

    Sal explained.

Wolf 1061c, it’s in the Ophiucus constellation 13.8 light years away and is in a habitable zone for exoplanets. But, one of the questions I have is, what connection is there between Earth and Wolf?

Sal paused, I came back to DC to pick up some of my equipment and then I’m sojourning to the VLA to follow-up on a strange report of sporadic contacts with the Wolf system by a reclusive star gazer using their array.

Richard interjected, "How does the VLA justify the expense of the allocation of their system? That’s gotta be thousands of dollars worth of access time?

Sal wrinkled his nose, That’s the strange part; billionaire Robert Atwood has been paying cash for the access time for his associate to use the system.

Richard leaned up and asked, Who is the guy using the system?

That’s even more intriguing, apparently his name is Al and he is a part-time curator of sorts at the Astronomical Lyceum in Magdalena.

I’ll have the FBI check him out. Richard offered, Way ahead of you there, Sal said, I talked to Pepper and he had nothing on file. He was going to send an agent to check him out, but I told him I would go down there myself. I have to find out his story first-hand and why he’s interested in the Wolf system.

Eve added her thoughts, Sal, you sound like a dogged journalist chasing a story.

Sal smiled, I can understand now, the ‘rush’ you feel when you uncover the layers of the unknown.

Sal, speaking of the unknown… how long until we are able to create our own time wave portal? Richard queried, Sal shook his head, Richard, I’m not sure we will ever be able to duplicate their technology. Looking over some of the specs I don’t believe we have the minerals, ores and the power source that are required to build such a device. One hope is that the Alphas can show us a workaround.

Sal, I have faith in your teams ability to conquer anything. Eve said.

Sal smiled, Thanks Ms…Eve, but sometimes one has to face reality.

Eve smiled and offered, Sal, it wasn’t so long ago we didn’t know aliens existed. Every day brings a new reality.

    Sal nodded, Goodnight.

    He disappeared from the monitor.

Richard leaned back on the sofa and put his arm around Eve.

He smiled at her, Didn’t know that philosophy was in your wheelhouse; I learn something new about you every day.

Eve raised her eyebrows and said as she tugged on the belt on Richard’s robe.

Maybe I can show you something else new about me.

    Managing The Fallout

Tsirch sat at the Resolute desk thumbing through pages of reports and glancing up to one of the monitors on the desk.

A tone sounded and Tsirch tapped a button on the side of the desk.

    Yes Philip.

Mr. President, Madam Secretary is here.

    Thank you. Send her in.

The door opened and Marilyn Richter walked in and closed the door behind her. She continued in and stood in front of the President.

    Good morning Mr. President.

Tsirch stood and smiled, And a good morning to you Madam Secretary. Let’s get comfortable. He pointed to the sofa area.

Marilyn turned toward the sofas and placed her briefcase on a table and waited for the President to sit and then she sat down.

At that moment, the president’s Chief of Staff, Joel Mack knocked on the door and came in without an invitation carrying his VPC (Virtual Personal Connection device).

He scanned the room and saw that he had caught Tsirch’s eye and nodded to Marilyn, Good morning Mr. President and Madam Secretary, sorry I’m late.

    Tsirch replied, Good morning Joel.

Richter added her greeting. Good morning Joel.

Joel deftly made his way toward the sofa area and sat on the sofa a short distance from Marilyn. Joel sat his VPC on the table.

DHS Secretary Van Hook and FBI Director Martin are on their way, Mr. President. he stated then added, The National Intelligence Director, Carol Brown, will be here in twenty-minutes and Domestic Security Commander, Colonel Narkiewicz, and CIA Director Jack Silver are standing by on a COM feed.

Tsirch smiled, Joel, you’ve only been back for one day, you can’t pack everything you missed in the past three weeks into one day.

Joel nodded and countered, But, I was not here to help guide you through one of the most significant events in history; alien contact.

Tsirch shook his head, "Joel, we had daily contact while you were undergoing your most significant life event; ridding yourself of cancer. Don’t think your part in the alien contact situation was insignificant even though you weren’t physically here. You organized almost every meeting and COM call from your hospital bed."

Joel shook his head slowly, But I wasn’t there to witness, in person, Adam’s earthly introduction.

Tsirch sighed, But you will be there for any ensuing events. He paused. Right now you are an integral component in our navigation of the varied human responses to the reality of alien contact.

Joel half-smiled, Thank you Mr. President. and quickly continued, Is there anyone else you would like to join us?

Tsirch thought for a moment, Yes, Dr. Uschin.

Joel cocked his head, I thought you would like his input, but he is en route to the VLA in New Mexico and won’t be available for a COM feed for at least four more hours. And also I included your press secretary, January Yee.

Tsirch chuffed, See Joel, you are indispensable.

Joel stood, picked up his VPC put it in his pocket and asked, So, if you and Madam Secretary are ready, we should make our way to the situation room.

Tsirch and Marilyn stood and Marilyn picked up her briefcase and they followed Joel out the side door.

The trio made a couple of turns and stopped at the elevator door and Joel pressed the call button.

The door opened and they stepped in. The door closed and it opened when the elevator reached the basement. They stepped out and made a couple of short turns and arrived at the situation room.

To many, the situation room is unexpectedly narrow but well appointed with comfortable swivel chairs situated around a long table. Several COM monitors were fixed to both side walls and a large COM was on the wall at the far end.

Joel was the first in the door and pressed several buttons on the wall beside the door. The COMs lit up and light showered the room. Tsirch followed him in and stood by the chair at the head of the table. Marilyn walked around and took a chair to the immediate left of Tsirch, and placed her briefcase on the floor beside her. Tsirch on seeing her sit, took his seat. Joel went over to a cabinet and opened it. He took out several thick folders and began placing them on the table at various seats beginning with the president.

There was a knock on the door and Joel completed his activity and then answered the door.

Kevin, the president’s butler, was at the door with a serving cart. Joel held the door open while Kevin pushed the cart in and Joel closed the door and remained by the door.

Kevin guided the cart over to a serving table and began to transfer a few cold beverage pictures and three hot beverage containers from the cart to the serving table.

When the cart was emptied, Kevin pushed it back out the door to a waiting kitchen staff member. Kevin closed the door and turned around and went over to the serving table and stood.

There was another knock on the door and Joel opened it.

FBI Director John Pepper Martin and DHS Secretary Julia Van Hook stood at the door and Joel greeted them as he waved them in.

Good morning Secretary Van Hook and Director Martin.

Van Hook smiled and nodded, Good morning Joel.

    Martin smiled and nodded also.

Yes, good morning to you also, Joel.

The two made their way into the room, each carrying a valise, and Joel was about to close the door when he noticed two other participants coming down the corridor, National Intelligence Director Carol Brown, carrying a briefcase and Presidential Press Secretary January Yee. Joel held the door and Yee stopped and offered Brown the first entry to which she nodded acceptance as she stepped in.

    Thank you Mr. Yee.

Yee smiled, Of course Madam Director.

They both stepped in and Joel closed the door.

    The four entrants stood for a moment and Tsirch stood and went to each one and shook their hand addressing them individually;

Secretary Van Hook, Director Martin, Director Brown and Mr. Yee.

Each responded with their greeting, Mr. President.

Tsirch was smiling and continued, Ladies and Gentlemen you may sit anywhere there is a folder on the table and a pop-up display is available for your VPCs.

    Tsirch returned to his seat.

Secretary Van Hook sat to the right of the president and sat her valise on the table and Director Martin sat next to Van Hook, placing his valise on the table also.

Director Brown sat her briefcase on the floor and sat next to Marilyn Richter, Yee sat next to Brown and took his VPC out of his coat pocket and put it on the table. Joel took the last seat next to Yee.

Tsirch scanned the faces at the table.

Thank you all for coming this morning. While you peruse the documents in the folders, Kevin will take your beverage selection and lunch orders while we wait for our COM guests to make their appearances.

Kevin took his cue and walked over to the President and began with him.

What will you have Mr. President?

Tsirch smiled, How about hot tea and an avocado and shrimp salad with clam chowder?

    Kevin nodded, Of course, sir.

He pivoted to his left and took Marilyn’s order and continued on down the table to Joel. After taking their orders he walked back around the table and took requests from Secretary Van Hook and Director Martin.

When he finished taking orders he proceeded to fulfill the beverage requests for each guest. When he finished taking orders and serving the beverages, Kevin left the room.

Joel stood and addressed the group.

I’ve taken the liberty of sending each of you digital copies of the documents in the folder and reference materials.

Several of the attendees had already taken out their VPCs and activated the pop-up display that slid up out of a slot in the table. Joel sat back down.

Van Hook held her VPC aligning two fingers with the print readers on the device and held it up to her face and activated the facial recognition. The device vibrated in her hand and she sat it next to the pop-up display. A virtual keyboard appeared in front of the display.

Marilyn continued going through the hard copies in the folder and was the last to retrieve her VPC from her briefcase and aimlessly placed it on the table as one of the pages in the folder caught her attention.

Mr. President, she said without looking up from the page, this blurb from Lieutenant Smithy at Domestic Security... is her assessment of Segr8’s connection to the Islamic State and FATA been verified?

Tsirch looked earnestly at Marilyn, Very astute of you to focus in on one of the major topics of this meeting.

    Tsirch continued.

Commander Narkiewicz questioned her sources and found that Silver had the same intel from his CIA operatives and it was verified by Homeland.

    Tsirch took a breath.

When they get on the COM you can dig into it.

Marilyn wrinkled one of her brows and slowly shook her head.

This does not bode well. She looked across the table at Van Hook, Julia, how extensive is this threat?

Julia took a short breath, It seems that the Indonesian collective, FATA, has been supplying black market thermite grenades to various subversive factions; Segr8, including the Hi-Hangers, Silkmates and the Anti-Adam movement.

She paused and looked across and nodded at Carol Brown, NID director, Director Brown has coordinated with our department and with Domestic Security Commander Narkiewicz in tracking various shipments.

Director Brown picked up the dialogue, In addition to Homeland, DOD General Porter brought Domestic Security to the table and they have been an integral part in securing High Value Targets from possible attacks.

As if they were listening, two COMs lit up and the video feeds of Commander Edward Narkiewicz, Lieutenant Brie Smithy and CIA Director Jack Silver were displayed.

Tsirch noticed the three guests and greeted them.

Welcome Commander Narkiewicz and Lieutenant Smithy.

    The two responded in unison.

    Thank you Mr. President.

Tsirch continued, And you Director Silver, you are just in time to defend yourself.

The faces of the group as a whole showed a quizzical expression. Silver looked at the display on his monitor. The names of each participant displayed below the images. He scanned the faces on his display. He smiled and chuffed then he retorted, Thank you Mr. President, but for me I need to know which skeletons in OUR past you are referring to, but you may have to explain your humor to the Commander and Lieutenant Smithy.

Tsirch smiled and chuckled, You are right Jack; fortunately the records of OUR skeletons are sealed.

The mood of the group changed to that of relaxation.

Tsirch smiled and looked at the monitor addressing Narkiewicz and Smithy.

My apologies to you both, Commander and Lieutenant, Director Silver and I have a compromised history.

He light-heartedly continued, But, actually Commander and Lieutenant, you WERE the topic of discussion, he paused, your part in the security of HVT’s from the FATA, Segr8 and other factions was brought up.

The Commander replied, We are ready to answer all of your inquiries, sir.

As each member of the group activated their VPCs, their name appeared above their pop-up display. Additionally, when they spoke, their name on the monitor of a COM viewer would highlight itself.

    Marilyn spoke first.

Thank you Commander, she paused as she looked at a page in the folder. I see in your report Lieutenant that the FATA pipeline for disruption of communication arrays has extended to our domestic contingents. Have you identified the contacts or distribution points?

Yes, Madam Secretary, Smithy replied. We have been coordinating with DHS, CIA, FBI and DOD and the Philippine Anti-terrorist Director Raul Mendoza to facilitate a ‘catfish’ network using FlashCom media wholly supported by its owner Abby Gonzales. Smithy paused and busied her fingers on her keyboard.

We followed the money and she revealed the IP addresses and I am sending you the pictures to your sub-screen of the major players in this chain of subversion.

Several pictures appeared on a separate monitor and on each of the pop-up displays of the group.

Commander Narkiewicz interjected, I would be remiss if I didn’t give Lieutenant Smithy the bulk of the credit for taking the lead on this project.

Brie turned her head, shook it slightly, tightened one corner of her mouth, squinted at Edward and countered, And you Colonel are just window dressing? I think not.

She continued, As I was saying, these individuals are the focus of our attention: Parker Heiser of Seattle and David Poole of Little Rock, both head up Segr8 and are currently in custody, but yet run the group; Harvey Norman of Baltimore, the Hi-Hangers leader; Carrie Milton, the creator of the Anti-Adam movement; Silky Mason of Alexandria the leader of the US faction of the Silkmates; and the head of the snake, Alfaro Garcia the self-appointed leader of the FATA, Filipine Asian Terrorist Anarchists.

Smithy paused and continued, Garcia is the supplier of the black market thermite grenades that have been successfully used in partially melting one of the telescope arrays in Jakarta.

She took a breath and continued, FBI Director Martin has more information about the changes in tactics of the various subversives.

Tsirch looked over at Martin, Okay Pepper, I guess you are in the hot-seat.

Martin smiled and began, Van Hook and Director Brown can jump in at anytime. But for my part, it seems that there is a great amount of misinformation and disinformation driving the actions of those that would do harm to the people and facilities that communicate with the aliens. The recent attempts to stop communication with the aliens by coating the radio telescopic arrays with reflective paints or coatings for the most part were parried by law enforcement. In the few instances where they were successful in coating the arrays it had no effect on the actual communication. The coatings were removed without any resulting damage. There were other attempts to interfere with the holographic appearance of Adam by delivering EMP waves at the hologram but as you know that had no effect whatsoever.

Marilyn took advantage of Pepper’s pause.

Director Martin, we know that the wearing of tin foil hats and foil coverings are of no defense against alien radio waves, as the aliens aren’t sending radio waves to infect the brains of humans, but why is that belief so pervasive. Who is disseminating that misinformation?

    Martin shook his head.

I’ve been working with Abby Gonzales at FlashCom to identify the source but the viral nature of the misinformation makes it difficult to counter. People believe what they want regardless of evidence to the contrary. Science fiction yet prevails

    Marilyn continued her queries.

Has Ms. Gonzales had any success in tracking the FlashCom sources of the thermite grenade deliveries or locations?

    Van Hook spoke up.

I can help you there Madam Secretary. FlashCom has been instrumental in supplying the addresses of several accounts and Homeland with the help of the CIA, FBI and Lieutenant Smithy, have derailed six deliveries in the US and prevented several major shipments from Puerto Princesa on Palawan Island north of Brunei. One of the targets was the Parkes Radio Telescope in Australia and fortunately the CIA alerted the authorities and the perpetrators were apprehended along with the thermite munitions and prevented the attack.

There was a knock on the door and Tsirch said, Yes come in.

    Kevin entered the room.

Mr. President, I was just wondering if anyone needs a refill.

Tsirch looked around the dais and several raised their hands and Kevin attended to their needs.

    Marilyn queried Director Silver.

Jack, has the CIA back-channeled the Chinese, Russian and Eurasian counterparts about the threats?

Silver replied, Affirmative Madam Secretary, even the Islamic community has sent out an advisory denouncing the attacks.

    Marilyn was surprised.

Really? That goes counter to their religious take on the aliens being a precursor to Islamic Armageddon.

Suddenly, another face appeared on the COMs. The Vice President broke into the conversation.

Perhaps I can enlighten you on this subject.

Tsirch smiled and stifled a chuckle on seeing Richard on the monitor.

Mr. Vice President, welcome to the conversation.

Most of the group was surprised by his grand entrance.

Marilyn smiled, Why am I not surprised by your intrusion Mr. Vice President.

Director Silver commented, Richard...er, Mr. Vice President, you are going to have to teach me how you do that.

Richard responded as expected, Jack, I would love to tell you, but then, of course, Silver and Pepper Martin joined him in finishing the rest of the quote, "I’d have to kill you."

    Richard smiled.

Marilyn continued, As you were saying Mr. Vice President…

Richard shook his head and offered, Okay, first of all let’s call me ‘Richard’ for the purpose of this meeting.

He urged compliance by nodding his head and extending his hands to faces on his side of his monitor.

Most of the group nodded affirmative.

Anyway, actually as I recall the term should be Islamic eschatology. That represents a series or signs that the ‘end of times’ are upon us. But many of the religious scholars are divided or more accurately scrambling for an appropriate application to ascribe this event to. Much of the discussion shies away from the usual final events as a divine intervention, as that would imply that the aliens are god-like, and that certainly is not part of a preordination in scriptures.

Tsirch smiled and imparted an observation, Thank you reverend Natás for your dissertation.

    Marilyn continued the thought line.

"There are many that seem to be of the same mind, Richard.

There is confusion that has bread distrust in applying religious dogma and that in turn angers those that deny reality."

Kevin had been listening to the conversation and tentatively asked, Pardon me Mr. President, but would it be permissible to weigh in as an interested party?

Tsirch smiled and asserted, Kevin, of course your comments would be welcomed.

Thank you, sir. I would like to say that I think that ‘fear’ is a major issue of the people.

Richard interjected, Kevin, can you expand on that my friend?

Kevin started slowly, Well, uh. When I speak with my friends about the aliens, some seem to fear what they might be up to. Some want to stop them, some want to embrace them and their technology, while others just want to hide.

Tsirch asked, And Kevin, what would you like to do?

Kevin thought and smiled, Me, I think it’s kinda cool. I don’t see them as a threat, as you have said Mr. President; We can’t change what has happened. Just as the alien Adam said; we can only deal with the here and now. The future is coming whether we want it or not.

Press Secretary Yee smiled and nodded.

Mr. President, I think you have found my replacement.

Tsirch chuckled and stated, "It would be a salary savings,
