The Group.
"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil
is for good men to do nothing".
One.
We had of course allowed it to happen. Not just allowed, we had wished for it, encouraged it, argued for it, campaigned for it. Fought for it. Once they had told us they had the answers, we had allowed our leaders, whether unelected or not, to become gods. We later called them The Group. Their words were law. The laws, which they themselves had made, had protected them against all challenges. They were unassailable.
Once however, the scale of our deception had become clear some had tried to speak out, to challenge, to incite protests against our new gods. Their challenges went unaddressed. Unanswered, unacknowledged. And then they would disappear. They were seldom spoken of again; it wasn’t worth the risk.
Before complete control had been achieved many had tried to raise the alarm, to raise awareness of what the deception (deceptions) was. Of where it would lead to. Of where we are now. They were not listened to by those that should have listened. They were denied, they were mocked, they were the ‘conspiracy theorists’.
They were right.
The creep towards complete control had been there for all to see. Most though had closed their eyes to it and looked the other way. Some had yearned for it and, when it came, had welcomed it with open arms and rapturous fanfare. Those who refused to believe it would later come to lament their inaction of the past. For now, it was too late. Too late for protest, too late for persuasion, too late for revolution; too late to restore the freedoms which had been removed. Permanently.
We had given power over to those whom we had trusted to look after our best interests and those of our fellow citizens. We had confidence in their integrity, honesty and selflessness in coming up with the answers to the many problems that we were facing. That confidence was misplaced. When the scale of their greed, corruption and lies had finally been exposed they already held the keys to the power and control we had allowed them to amass. They enjoyed the trappings of that power and control without worrying that the masses could remove them from their privilege and lofty heights. It was unthinkable. It was actually impossible. They were immune. Which is where the seeds of deception and ultimately control had begun.
Two.
One of the major problems facing mankind of the early time (the time before control) had been the inevitable increase in human population. It had showed little or no evidence of slowing down in many nations across the world. Slow progress had been made by The Group in the western nations over many decades to covertly reduce male and female fertility through the introduction of chemicals into the food chain through various methods of production but, although limited success had been achieved, it was nowhere near on a scale that would make a large enough impact on population growth. Something else had to be added to the arsenal. Ideally something that would not only remove the younger population before they had reproduced but also remove the vast numbers of expensive members of society who, whilst using up valuable (and limited) resources in the shape of food and healthcare gave back nothing tangible in return; the sick and the elderly. ‘The useless eaters’ as they were referred to behind the doors of power. As population growth was a global issue a global solution was needed. This would of course benefit most of the nations of the world where population growth was both a drain on current resources and facilities but also a worry for the sustainability of a future society where overpopulation could reach crisis point. A global solution would of course require national co-operation. Co-operation between national leaders. Agreements would have to be reached. As mandating a citizen’s ability or right to reproduce and have children would not be taken well by those citizens and society in general, the course of action national leaders would have to agree upon in order to achieve global depopulation goals would, they concluded, best be reached without the knowledge of their citizens.
The course of action agreed upon within The Group by these leaders (who were of course members) would have to involve something all encompassing. Something which could affect every global citizen regardless of age, sex, race or location. Quite an ask. The solution they arrived at was based on something quite simple. Something which every global citizen could be susceptible to and something, the origin of which, could be the subject of misdirection and plausible disinformation. In terms of satisfying the remit, it was genius.
A two-phased attack on the human immune system.
The first phase would consist of an extremely potent manufactured airborne virus, released into the general population which would attack the immune system of all citizens, especially the vulnerable groups (the elderly or infirm) who would often have weaknesses in theirs making them especially susceptible to its deadly effects. To ensure maximum efficacy amongst those citizens a vaccine would not be made available for an extended period, at least a full year was considered probably enough time. This would ensure, as people travelled, worldwide spread. This first phase would not however have a great effect on the second target group for depopulation, those who had not yet reproduced. These were in general younger and fitter. Less likely to suffer devastating effects from a virus as their immune systems were thought to be stronger and more resilient.
Something else was needed.
The second phase would be of equal genius to the first. Once the virus was seen to have had its maximum effect on its target group and the global populations were crying out for relief in the form of a vaccine; one would be released. It would be covertly developed by the military with private pharmaceutical companies being paid to put their names to it. This would ensure its legitimacy in the eyes of an
