My recent 46-day cruise trip to Africa proved to be a highly rewarding experience. Throughout the journey, I had the privilege of attending several enlightening lectures delivered by Mr. Andrew Fletcher. Drawing inspiration from his insightful lecture materials and his books on Quantum Mechanics, notably ‘Life, the Universe, and Everything’ and ‘Quantum God, Fractal Jesus,’ I was motivated to add another chapter titled ‘Quantum Uncertainties’ to my manuscript. I am deeply grateful to Mr. Fletcher, who graciously agreed to review my manuscript prior to its publication. This act of generosity is truly appreciated, and I extend my sincere thanks for his support and encouragement.

During the 46-day cruise trip, I enthusiastically participated in all lectures on prehistoric findings in Africa delivered by Dr. Olga Stavrakis. Dr. Stavrakis, an anthropologist, archaeologist, author, and travel lecturer, captivated my attention with her illuminating presentations. Her insights not only expanded my understanding of the subject matter but also sparked ideas on where to delve deeper for information regarding climate change. I am truly grateful to her for her expertise and inspiration throughout the journey.

I would like to express my gratitude to Mr. Anthony Green for his invaluable contributions during my participation in his Cyber Security Standards and Strategy class at the University of British Columbia. As the Manager of Security Operations and Compliance at the Charter Professional Accountants of British Columbia, Mr. Green plays a pivotal role in leading a team responsible for the development and maintenance of a robust security program. He also serves as President for the Vancouver chapter of the Information Systems Audit and Control Association. Over the past two months, I’ve deliberated between using ‘Back to the Universe-Centered’ or ‘Gone with the Human-Centered’ as the title. Choosing the former suggests that the universe persists without humans, while the latter implies the disappearance of everything after humans vanish from the universe. It’s crucial to note that the idea that the universe does not exist without humans is rooted more in philosophical or metaphysical speculation than in scientific evidence. However, as we delve into the narrative of Revelation, particularly chapters 21 and 22, we encounter a vision of a new creation where God dwells with humanity eternally, marking a triumphant conclusion to this cosmic saga. Therefore, ‘Back to the Universe-Centered’ captures the temporal nature of our current reality, acknowledging the continuity of existence beyond our human-centered perspective.

As we approach the conclusion of this narrative in the book of Revelation, specifically chapters 21 and 22, we encounter the climax of the most extraordinary story ever told. In Revelation, the finale unfolds with a profound vision. An angel reveals to John a breathtaking bride, symbolizing the new creation that forever unites God and His covenant people. God’s proclamation that He will dwell with humanity eternally and make all things new marks the triumphant conclusion of this cosmic narrative. Therefore, ‘Back to the Universe-Centered’ is only a temporal phenomenon, and we will still have a new earth and heaven. So, I have decided to opt for the former.

Returning to the core theme that the book addresses throughout its chapters — our burning issues and our very existence. As the shadow of Covid begins to recede, we find ourselves on the precipice of new challenges, echoing the words of Revelation (9:12): The first woe is past; two other woes are yet to come.

The second woe emerges from the relentless realm of natural disasters and human-made problems, an ever-present specter casting a perpetual shadow and leaving us bracing for the final blow. A chilling report by the National Post unveils a different menace --- daily cyberattacks on Canada orchestrated by state-sponsored hackers. The Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) sounds the alarm, revealing an alarming surge in these digital assaults.

In this age of dualities, where technology serves as both ally and adversary, our existence takes a darker twist. Cyberattacks, boundless and unrelenting, defy conventional military might, posing a threat not just to our physical infrastructure but to the very fabric of society. Yet, this threat extends far beyond the physical realm, encompassing the digital and even the existential. As believers, we must grapple with the implications of these technological advancements, seeking divine guidance in confronting the malevolence of technology and ensuring that we do not succumb to its grip.

Yet, this threat extends far beyond the physical realm. Attacks on databases and power grids jeopardize the very fabric of society. Records vanish into the digital abyss, and the ominous specter of nuclear retaliation looms large, while our defenses remain powerless.

As the digital Armageddon draws nearer, our world unravels. Vehicles stall, charging stations remain dormant, and financial turmoil tightens its grip on the nation’s economy. In this interconnected world, the crisis knows no boundaries, casting a ubiquitous shadow over every facet of our existence. Ominous clouds gather, heralding an all-encompassing Armageddon.

Now, humanity stands at a crossroads, facing a monumental choice: confront the malevolence of technology or succumb to it. The Armageddon in the Cloud is not a mere work of fiction but a haunting reality. Our survival hinges on our mastery of the technology that has pushed us to the brink.

With this unfolding panorama in mind, I embark on a journey to uncover the causes, consequences, and necessary preparations. As believers, we turn to divine guidance, seeking the grace and mercy of our Lord, even in times when during those days people will seek death but will not find it; they will long to die, but death will elude them (Revelation 9:6 NIV).

For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities – his eternal power and divine nature- have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse. (Romans 1:20 NIV)

This verse from Romans lays the groundwork for our exploration, suggesting that the natural world offers insights into God’s attributes, setting the stage for our discussion on how faith intersects with contemporary issues.

As Christians, it is both our responsibility and duty to express our faith and values in the diverse world we inhabit. Regrettably, we often shy away from addressing controversial topics such as Artificial Intelligence, gene-editing, evolution, and prehistoric discoveries. Yet, engaging in open dialogues on these matters is not just important but essential for understanding God’s creation and expressing our faith in a diverse world. These conversations help us comprehend our faith more deeply and enable us to share it effectively with others. To navigate the complexities of our time, we must wholeheartedly embrace diverse perspectives and strive for comprehensive understanding.

To further underscore the importance of considering diverse perspectives, the ‘parable of the blind men and the elephant’ serves as a poignant reminder that every person possesses a unique viewpoint, and no single perspective can be considered entirely correct. To truly grasp a situation or problem, we must consider multiple perspectives. As Christians, when confronted with challenges, we should make it our mission to delve into various subjects such as Earth sciences, celestial phenomena, archaeological discoveries, evolutionary theory, gene-editing, humanoid robotics, and artificial intelligence. Demonstrating our understanding of scientific advancements can highlight how Holy Scriptures complement progress rather than oppose it, equipping us to defend our beliefs effectively.

Artificial Intelligence is an integral part of the broader narrative of transhumanism, which has its roots in science fiction, philosophy, and the human potential movement. Transhumanism explores the convergence of AI, biotechnology, nanotechnology, and neuroscience, potentially reshaping our understanding of human potential. The breakneck pace of technological advancement suggests that these innovations could redefine what it means to be human.

The emergence of self-aware AIs and other technological advancements mark significant milestones in our understanding of God’s creation and our responsibility to steward it. The merging of AI with biotechnology, nanotechnology, and neuroscience blurs the boundaries of human potential, giving rise to a host of ethical, social, and political questions.

Hence, the establishment of ethical and safety guidelines for AI development becomes crucial. As Christians, it is imperative that we grapple with questions related to AI development, ensuring that technological progress aligns with our values and beliefs, thus expressing our faith in a changing world. Failing to do so could have dire consequences.

In particular, the specter of cyber warfare looms large, posing a grave threat to society that extends beyond physical damage. Attacks on critical infrastructure can result in the erasure of vital information, leading to chaos. The looming threat of cyber warfare underscores our responsibility to steward the world and protect its inhabitants from harm. As digital threats encroach upon our world, its rapid deterioration affects every facet of our interconnected existence. We must confront the potential malevolence of technology or risk succumbing to its grip. ‘The Armageddon in the Cloud’ is not mere fiction; it serves as a stark reminder of our precarious equilibrium. Our survival hinges on our ability to master technology for the greater good.

While the book provides valuable cybersecurity tips, we mustn’t solely rely on self-help; we must also seek divine guidance and have faith. The author’s aim is to awaken believers to the necessity of seeking God’s guidance. In the concluding chapter, a path forward for Christians is presented. Let us fervently pray for the Lord’s continued guidance, mercy, and grace. Embracing these challenges through the lens of our faith is not merely a choice but a divine calling.
