I WANT CHANGE

Marta lived in a brightly illuminated barn, together with her mother Babet and her sisters Trudy and Joanna and all the others.

The barns were big and modern, there even was a cow-wash for cows, where the cows could get a good wash or a massage to relax, as they had to produce much more milk than in Marta’s Grandmother Emma’s time.

It all seemed much better for them, very friendly and luxurious, but it wasn't. It was only meant to increase milk production and money for the Farmer, Marta murmurs.

Nowadays they were milked multiple times a day by machines instead of by hand and much longer. They all became very stressed from that, because they were required to deliver a minimum amount of milk.

If one of their friends could not produce this minimum amount of milk then she was taken away. And Marta had not heard such nice things about that. That didn't end well. Marta shivered with fear.

The barn was always illuminated day and night, something Marta disliked a lot too. Marta and the others were allowed to walk up and down the barn but there was no grass at all and all that light, Marta just didn’t feel happy about it.

Marta looked outside, but the meadows she could see were not for them.

They never were allowed outside and no one seemed to care.

And that food. Grrrr...Marta moohed in herself. The food was just terrible. All dry. Dry tasteless grass and chunks of something unrecognizable......yuck!

Ooh yeh, then there was that creepy doctor. The one they called a vet. Pricks and pills he wanted to give even when it was not needed. Marta had already successfully managed to kick one.

Marta longed for an ordinary old-fashioned environment, but with a lot of possibilities for adventures. Fun adventures!!!   

A life with a normal day and night. Not constantly that bright light, but a wonderful silent and dark night to sleep quietly and deep, perhaps in a beautiful wild meadow.

Without all that stress and anxiety.

Babet often talked about the other days. The time in which Marta’s Grandmother had lived. Totally the opposite from the life in their present brightly illuminated barn, it seemed.

Emma, as Babet’s mother was called, was born at a small Cheese farm. A cosy

small farm with 7 cows, under which Mia, Emma’s mother and further Max, Emma’s father, an impressive bull, 2 horses Amelia and Claus, 2 pigs, Rosa and Oliver and the Cat couple Lizzy and Tom.

Of course farmer Sebastian and his wife Sara did not know anything about the 2 mouses Dana and Tim, but they also lived at the small Cheese farm!

All animals shared the the barn together, while Sara and Sebastian lived in the cosy farm house.

The barn was spacious and clear, always stocked with fresh golden yellow straw on the floor, enough to softly sleep on and every day fresh food.

The sun brought the daylight and in the evening the night took over and it became dark and silent on the farm and everyone fell happily asleep.

Whenever it was nice dry weather the cows were free to go outside into the meadows around the little Cheese farm. Everybody had space and food in abundance.

All animals shared the the barn together, while Sara and Sebastian lived in the cozy farm house.

The children from the village next to which the farm was located, visited daily to help to comb and brush the horses and to cuddle the cows. Which caused great joy for all.

Sometimes if the farmer had some spare time he even pulled Amelia and Claus for his covered wagon and took the children for a ride through the village. It was such a great time.

Sebastian and Sara milked their cows by hand twice a day and made very tasty cheeses from the milk. Everybody liked to eat them.

Also Dana and Tim who at night sometimes came to eat little pieces, that were left over after the sale of most of the cheeses.

Emma grew up with her mother Mia. Whenever she was playing outside in the meadows, which was almost everyday, she saw her father Max. He mooohed to her lovingly ...mooooh!

Tim and Tom actually, were the best of friends.

Whenever farmer Sebastian and his wife Sara were busy tasting the new cheeses, daddy Cat Tom watched carefully from a distance.

So, he was able to take his friend the mouse Tim past all the small pieces of cheese that by accident had dropped on the floor.

All animals shared the the barn together, while Sara and Sebastian lived in the cosy farm house.

Tom knew how much Tim and Dana liked to eat cheese. And this way, thought Tom, Tim would not have to take great risk in finding food for Dana and himself.

Tim in turn, helped Tom and Lizzy, by nibbling small holes in the Cat-food bag,        for some energetic reinforcement. And so everybody actually was very very happy at the little cheese farm. True
