    Personal Insight

Life has a way of showing us that no matter how hard we try, there is always something that might throw a spanner in the works. It has a rather cruel and unfair way of making us realize that in a moment’s notice, all that we plan and strategize can go up in smoke. This is a reality of life and something that is necessary for us to accept.

This can happen for any number of reasons, some in our control and others that are not. Like a ninja in the night, it can strike at any time and when we least expect it to. We can prepare for it but at the end of the day it all comes down to how lucky we are. Now, while this might be the case, it is not like we simply give up and decide that we are not going to even try to do something about it. As the very famous proverb says, it is better to try and fail than to fail to try.

If we simply put our hands up and decide that just because things might go wrong, we won’t even try, then there will come a time when we will have achieved nothing in life. You might be able to salvage the situation but if you aren’t, there is a very high chance that the ship has sailed, leaving you stranded. From experience, I can tell you that there is nothing more disheartening and demoralizing than realizing that something could have been avoided, only if we had tried.

The most basic thing that we can do is make an intention to try. Once we make an intention to do something, the next step is mustering up the motivation to get started. We must look into ourselves and convince ourselves to be able to leave the ways of old and change. It must come as no surprise that when people decide to change, there is an inevitable inertia that come as a part of the package. This inertia can often make it difficult to change our ways but it does not mean that it is impossible. Change is not impossible; it is readying yourself to be able to want to do it because no matter how much someone may motivate you, it is always yourself in the end who decides to do something about it.

Once the decision is made, the next step is deciding how far we can actually go with the plan that we have in mind. A key part of changing one’s self is consciously realizing just how capable we really are to complete what it is that we set out for. When a person knows what their capabilities and limitations are, it allows them to be able to chart a course of action that they can use to get to where they want to be. When you have a game plan, it allows you to have perspective so you know what it is that needs to be done and when. When you plan, you don’t run around like a headless chicken, relying on hopes and prayers that they will somehow get you to where you want to be.

One of the most defining qualities of successful is their ability to manage themselves in a way that can ultimately serve the greater purpose. It is their ability to be able to see what is needed of them and do it in a way that is required to. When there is a structure, even if shaky, it allows for things to be done much more efficiently. To be able to manage yourself requires a person to not only use their own internal energy but also to surround themselves with the right kind of people that can aid them in their efforts for change.

The people that are around when you are out making something of yourself can make or break who you are. If you surround yourself with like-minded people who are willing to grow and chase their dreams, you too will pick up on this. However, if you surround yourself with lazy people who only moan, groan, and complain about the situation that they are in without doing anything about, you too will become like that. This happens because when a person is constantly around a certain group of people, this person starts to adopt the habits and mannerisms of this group. It slowly creeps into them and begins to consume them
