Create Petitions
When you petition the government for a redress of grievances, you can create literal petitions.
I have tried petitions before. From what I have heard, many people question the effectiveness of petitions, especially when it comes to online petitions.
It depends on how we write the petitions and to whom we deliver and direct them. Surely, if you design them well, they can make a difference. After all, elected officials do take note of their constituents’ concerns. Petitions alone may not change things, but they do have the power to indirectly influence political affairs.
Critics say we often create petitions just to feel good and if so, we do little good. If we address petitions to an overly general target, or we never actually deliver them, or worse, we make scam petitions, then petitions indeed do little good.
I have signed my share of petitions. I have also created my own petitions regarding causes like animal rights, the death penalty, and political prisoners. Other than raising awareness, I don’t think they made much impact.
Sometimes, petitions may work. I remember doing petitions for the release of a political prisoner and the news reported that the judge actually did grant
