    Chapter 1

    Barack Hussein Obama II

    Barack Obama’s early childhood.

    Well, our 44 th president was Barack Hussein Obama. He was born on August 4, 1961, in Honolulu Hawaii. Parents names were Barack Obama Sr., and Stanley Ann Dunham, known as Ann. Most of his childhood was spent in Honolulu. His mother was a student at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.

    Barack Obama’s parents met in 1960, when they were students at the University of Hawaii. His father was a first foreign student at the university from any African country. They were divorced in 1964.

    Obama was very close to his maternal grandparents. His mother remarried in 1965 to Lolo Soetoro an Indonesian citizen. Two years later, Dunham took her son to Indonesia to re-introduce him to his stepfather in 1971.

    Obama returned to Honolulu to attend the Punahou School, he graduated from there in 1979.

    Later on, Obama went to Occidental College in Los Angeles, and then to Columbia University, and Finally graduated from Harvard Law School.

    In Chicago, Obama worked at various times as a community organizer, lawyer, lecturer, and a senior lecturer of constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School. Later on, he published his memoir, dreams of my father. He began his political career in 1997 as a member of the Illinois senate.

    In his memoir, Obama describes his experiences growing up in his mothers, middle class family. His knowledge of his, African father, he returned for a brief visit in 1971. This book describes his struggles as a young adult to reconcile social perceptions of his multiracial Heritage. According to Obama, he used alcohol, marijuana, and cocaine during his teenage years, just to push the question out of his mind who he really was. Obama later said, it was a huge mistake. Barack Obama identified his high school drug use as his greatest moral failure, and he reiterated the fact that he has not used any drugs since he was a teenager.

    Some of his fellow students, and friends told the Honolulu star bulletin, that Obama was mature for his age as a high school student.

    Obama attended kindergarten at Noelani Elementary School from 1966 to 1967. From 1st to 3rd grade, he attended Saint Francis Assisi. His fourth grade was completed from 1970 to 1971 at state elementary school Menteng. From fifth through 12th grade, which lasted from 1971 to 1979 Punahou school.

    As a freshman and sophomore year at high school range from 1979 to 1981 at Occidental College. From 1981 to 1983, he attended Columbia University. From 1988 through 1991 Harvard law school.

    After living in New York for four years, Obama, returned to Chicago to work as a community organizer. Worked for three years from 1985 to 1988 as a Director of the development communities project, also known as DCP, base community organization originally comprising eight Catholic parishes in greater Roseland. During his three years as the DCP Director, the total staff grew from one to 13 and his annual budget grew from 70,000 to 400,000. His accomplishments, including helping set up a job training program, a college, preparatory tutoring program, and a tenant’s rights organization in Altgeld Gardens. Obama also worked as a consultant and instructor for the Gamaliel Foundation, a community organizing institute. In 1988 he traveled to Europe for three weeks, and then to Kenya for five weeks, where he met many of his relatives for the first time.

    Obama entered Harvard law school in late 1988. In an interview with Ebony in 1990, he said that he saw a degree in law as a vehicle to facilitate better community organization and activism. At the end of his first year, he was selected as an editor of the Harvard law school review based on his grades and a writing competition. In his second year at Harvard, he was elected as the president of the law review, a full-time volunteer position functioning as editor-in-chief and supervising the views staff of 80 editors. His election as the first black president of the law was widely reported and followed by several long, detailed profiles. He was elected, because he was able to convince a crucial swing bloc of conservatives that he would protect their interests if they supported him.

    While in law school, he worked as an associate at the law firm Sidley and Austin in 1989 where he met his future wife, Michelle Robinson. in the summer of 1990. He worked at Hopkins and Sutter. In 1991, he graduated from Harvard law school and moved back to Chicago.

    Popularity from his election as the first African-American president of the Harvard law review led to a Contact and advanced to write a book about race relations. University of Chicago law school provided Obama with a fellowship and an office to work on his book. He planned to finish his book in one year, but it took much longer as the book evolved into a personal memoir. To stay away from distractions, Obama and his Mrs. Michelle Obama traveled to Bali, where he wrote for several months. Finally, the manuscript was published as dreams from my father in mid 1995.

    Mr. Obama, and Mrs. Obama, married in 1992 and settled down with her in Hyde Park, a liberal middle-class Chicago neighborhood. Their first daughter, Malia Ann, was born in 1998, their second daughter named Natasha was born in 2001.

    Michelle Obama had work as an aid to Mayor Richard M Daley, Brother of Michelle Obama named Craig Robinson became best friends with Obama and introduced him to other African American businesspeople. According to Craig Robinson, Obama seldom spoke of his political ambitions, and saying that he might run for the president of the United States someday.

    Obama directed Illinois project vote from April to October 1992, a voter drive registration, officially non-partisan that helped Carol Moseley Braun became the first black woman ever elected to Senate. He worked with a staff of 10 individuals and 700 volunteers that achieved its goal of 400,000 registered African Americans in Illinois.

    Although fundraising was not required, he started an active campaign to raise money for the project. According to Sandy Newman, Obama raised more money than any of our state directors had ever done.

    Fundraising brought Obama into Contact with the wealthy liberal elite of Chicago. Some of them became supporters in his future political career. One of them was named David Axelrod, he headed Obama’ campaign for the president. Obama also introduced himself to the cities, black, political leadership, although he didn’t always get along with all politicians, his style of reluctance to spend money and his insistence on results.

    Obama taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago law school for 12 years, as a lecturer for four years and a senior lecturer for eight years. During his tenure, he taught courses and due process and equal protection voting rights, and racism and law.

    He joined Davis Miner, Barn hill & Galland a 12-attorney law, firm specializing in civil rights litigation and neighborhood economic development. There he was an associate for three years from 1993 to 1996, this firm was well-known among influential Chicago, liberals, and leaders of black community.

    In the years that Obama worked as a full-time lawyer at the firm, he was involved in 30 cases and accrued 3723 billable hours. He was listed as a counsel on four cases before the United States Court of appeals for the seventh circuit. All of these appeals resulted in favor of Obama’ clients.

    He was a founding member of the board of directors, Republic allies in 1992, resigning before his wife. Michelle became the founding executive Director of public allies Chicago in early 1993. He served on the board of directors of the woods fund of Chicago, which in 1985 had been the first foundation to fund Obama’s DCP from 93 to 2002.

    Obama served on the board of directors of the Chicago Annenberg challenge from 1995 to 2002, as a founding president and chairman of the board of directors from 1995 to 1999.

    He was the elected member of Illinois Senate in November 1996. He became a leading legislator on a wide range of issues, passing nearly 300 bills aimed at helping children, the elderly, labor unions, and the poor working conditions.

    Senate career of Barack Obama began on January 3, 2005, and ended on November 16, 2008.

    As a member of United States Senate of Illinois, he worked on several things. Obama won the election against Alan Keyes, who replaced Republican primary election Winner Jack Ryan. Obama was the fifth African-American senator in the US history, the third to have been elected with popularity.

    As a senator, Obama served on many of the committees, and chaired the United States Senate foreign relations subcommittee on European affairs. His voting record indicates that he was a loyal Democrat. He was one of the most liberal by many analyses. In his first session as a senator, he was involved in immigration reform. Legislation bearing his name was passed for armament reduction and federal transparency, as well as relief aid.

    First year of a senator as a part of the 110th Congress, he worked on lobbying and campaign finance reform election reform, climate, control, and troop reduction, but President, George W. Bush, Vetoed his legislation for state, children’s health insurance program.

    In May 2002, Obama began considering a run for the US Senate, and listening to political strategist, David Axelrod, and announcing his candidacy in January 2003. Before deciding to run, he met with Jesse Jackson Junior, who was known to be considering a bid for the seat, he said Jesse, if you’re running for the US Senate, I am not going to run Jackson said. The New York Times reported the story.

    Decisions by the republican, incumbent, Peter Fitzgerald, and his Democratic predecessor Carol Moseley Braun not to contest the race, launched wide, open Democratic Republican primary contests involving 15 candidates.

    Obama’s candidacy was boosted by Axelrod’s advertising campaign featuring images of the Chicago mirror Harold, Washington. He received 52% off the vote in March 2004 primary, earning 29% ahead of his nearest democratic rival.
