The Milky Way is the name of the galaxy that Earth is located in. It is a constantly rotating galaxy. The Milky Way is surrounded by a large halo of hot gas. This halo of hot gas goes on for hundreds of thousands of light years. The halo of gas is rotating rapidly as well. At the middle of the Milky Way is something called galactic bulge. This is full of dust, gas and stars. All the gas and dust in the galactic bulge are so thick that you can’t see out the other side or even peer into it.
There are over 200 billion stars in the Milky Way. Along with these stars there is enough gas and dust to make billions of more stars. A majority of stars
