About this ebook

When a hot shot rising star prosecutor has a criminal she put away for murder show up at her doorstep, with nowhere to go and no one to trust, she discovers the holiday spirit in this tale of love, justice, and redemption.

Sasha Charleston has pushed aside everything in her life to focus on her career in the District Attorney's office. For once, all she wants is a weekend to herself and the extended Fourth of July weekend is just the time for that. But her plans go astray when she realizes she's not as alone as she intended.

Jimmy Kraven was left to fend for himself when he was released for prison. He'd lost everything for a crime he didn't commit. And he can prove it. So when he has nowhere else to go, he seeks out the prosecutor who put him away. As much as he denied it to himself back then, there had been something between them. A spark. He knew she didn't think he did it, so he hoped to use that to his advantage and prove to her once and for all he isn't the man everyone thinks he is.

Sparks fly and tension is high while they navigate the tricky road they found themselves on. But when you're in Vegas, and your chips are down, there's no other option but to put it all on the line.

Let Freedom Ring - Jennifer O'Malley

    CHAPTER ONE

    SASHA

B randon, I told you the Richardson file is in the top drawer of my filing cabinet. You have a key, use it. I stifled a groan as I walked my assistant through where to find the file he was looking for—my assistant who should know better. After two months of working for me, he should be able to locate files without bothering me when I was off the clock.

Especially when it was a holiday weekend. Honestly, I didn’t even know what he was still doing at the office. He should have left hours ago with everyone else.

Not that the work in the District Attorney’s office is ever really done or takes a holiday. But that was why there was a rotating schedule of who was on call for weekends and holidays. And this was so not my weekend. Unfortunately, it was my assistant who decided he’d rather work than go home like a normal human being.

But I planned to spend my long weekend home, curled up with Jose and Jack. So, the last thing I wanted as I juggled my groceries, the phone, and my keys while I stood in front of the door to my apartment, was to think about work and deal with my assistant who seemed to be in the habit of making more work for me rather than less.

What do you need it for anyway? I asked with a sigh as the key finally slid into the lock. All I wanted was to get inside, take off my shoes, change into a comfortable pair of sweats, and have a drink to forget the never-ending hamster wheel that was my life. But I was the one who was gunning for the title: Sasha Charleston, District Attorney. And that meant my only priority was work—but even I had my limits, and I was quickly approaching it with Brandon. Why haven’t you gone home? Is Jeremey still there, working you? My tone was much sharper than I intended, but I wouldn’t put it past our boss to dole out tasks without being aware of what time it was or even the day of the week.

No, no, Ms. Charleston, he was quick to reassure me. I just wanted to double check all the witnesses to make sure we weren’t going to have any surprises.

While I liked his eager attitude, I knew there were always surprises in court. It was literally the one and only thing you could count on.

I’m serious Brandon, go home. It’ll be there after the holiday when we open back up. Go home and enjoy yourself.

I wasn’t sure the kid had it in him to work at the D.A.’s office. He was nice enough and eager to please, but he needed a bit too much handholding, as evidenced by our conversation. And that was a combination that made me nervous and made me want him to not touch anything when no one was there.

The bags fell to the kitchen counter with a thud, and I winced, hoping I didn’t break either of the bottles I’d picked up at the liquor store on the way home. And as the silence stretched out on the other end of the line, I wondered if Brandon didn’t have anyone to spend the holiday with, and I felt a pang in my chest as it was definitely something I could relate to. I realized in that moment how silly and pathetic my weekend plans were, drinking alone in an empty apartment during a long Fourth of July weekend.

It wasn’t even as though there was nothing to do. Vegas was always hustling and bustling and it sure did love the holidays—any reason to party, really. But that had never been my scene, not even in college before I went to law school.

It’s fine, Ms. Charleston. And I promise to go home shortly, he said quietly.

I picked up the bag with the things that needed to go into the fridge and let out a sigh.

"Okay, Brandon. Don’t work too hard. And if you need anything
