Introduction
When someone says history, more often than not, a lot of people would think of war, culture, and religion. The Balkans’ history is no exception to this thinking. The people in the Balkan peninsula experienced all these, but not in a peaceful way. From the get-go, they were at a disadvantage geographically. While most places can rely on their terrain for protection, the Balkan peninsula had no such privilege. This makes them an easy target for invaders. And as you read through this, you will see that many of the invaders took advantage of their lack of terrain protection.
Before the invaders came, there were different groups and regions in the Balkan peninsula. These cultural groups and areas were divided geographically: the Eastern Balkan, the Central Balkan, and the Western Balkan. These groups and regions helped historians to identify the origins of the people who lived in the Balkan peninsula.
The first invaders that came were the Greeks, who were followed closely by the Romans. The Greeks came in peacefully, but the Romans took the Balkan lands for themselves to conquer. The Romans were able to keep their hold of the Balkan peninsula for a lot longer than the Greeks. However, it came with a lot of
