    Chapter 1

The timorous radiance of the moon tiptoed into the café, casting faint argent streaks in the air. The night was so hushed that slumber had already claimed every soul. Within the café's confines, the giant clock unleashed a deafening clatter as it struck midnight, the loudest sound to be heard amidst the deserted space. Nevertheless, a commotion, gruff and jarring, the clatter of clashing cutlery emanated loudly from the kitchen on the ground floor. The quietude was shattered as hurried footsteps from the upper floor reverberated throughout the café. Startled from their slumber, everyone sprang to action. With her wand at the ready, Lucy stood firm at the entrance to the kitchen, while Rhine, Emi, Bo, Ervin, and Leo grabbed whatever they could lay their hands on as makeshift weapons. Lucy heaved a deep sigh, feeling exasperated as she watched her Faeln companions pick pillows, mops, and brooms to defend themselves, tools that would be of no use in the face of a real threat. She bit her lip, stifling her disappointment, and marched forward, with the rest following closely behind, towards the kitchen.

The cacophony from the kitchen had ceased, replaced by a disquieting silence that sent shivers down Lucy's spine and those of her companions. Lucy was convinced that the perpetrator was still lurking within the kitchen when a mysterious silhouette caught her eye. Without hesitation, she raised her wand and cast her spell. Zip a zoop! exclaimed Lucy.

The enigmatic shadow darted towards the door leading to the basement, with Lucy and her companions in hot pursuit. Upon reaching the basement, they were met with eerie stillness, save for the slightly ajar Portal Arch door that connected to Magiaplana. Lucy's senses were heightened, and she sensed something amiss. With her wand at the ready, she prepared to cast another spell when Leo sprang into action, racing towards the door and yanking out an individual who had been concealed behind it. Simultaneously, Lucy incanted her spell once more: Zip a zoop! she exclaimed.

A deafening blast reverberated throughout the room as Lucy's spell hit the door. Leo shielded a person in his arms, causing everyone to gasp in shock and wonder who he was protecting. When Leo finally revealed the individual, it turned out to be Hannah, who was visibly shaken and trembling with fear. Lucy was appalled at her recklessness and quickly rushed to Hannah's side to check on her condition.

Lucy's voice trembled with remorse. I thought you were the culprit.

Are you okay? Emi inquired with concern as she and the others surrounded Hannah.

Hannah nodded weakly, her hands still gripping Leo's body for support. The group unanimously decided to escort Hannah out of the basement. As they passed the café's kitchen, they discovered that it was in utter disarray. Utensils were scattered on the floor, and the surface was smeared with a substance resembling brown, slimy mud. Bo kneeled down and inspected the substance.

Swamp mud, he announced with a grim expression.

All eyes turned to Rhine as she stepped forward to join Bo, taking note of the muddy footprints leading to the basement door.

This isn't mud from the human world, she said, turning to Lucy for confirmation.

Lucy shook her head, looking just as puzzled as everyone else. I have no idea.

Leo shifted uncomfortably, still holding onto Hannah. What should we do with her? he asked.

Lucy stepped forward, offering to take Hannah upstairs. Let me handle this, she said gently, taking Hannah's hand and leading her away from the chaos of the kitchen.
