George Washington, the first President of the United States, had a notable early years and family background.
Birth: George Washington was born on February 22, 1732, in Westmoreland County, Virginia, on the Pope's Creek Estate. This date is according to the Julian calendar in use at the time; when the Gregorian calendar was adopted, his birthdate became February 11, 1731.
Family: He was born to Augustine Washington and Mary Ball Washington. He had several siblings, including half-siblings from his father's previous marriage.
Early Education: Washington's formal education was limited. He received some elementary schooling, primarily in mathematics, geography, and surveying, but his education was cut short due to his father's death when he was just 11 years old.
Surveying Career: At the age of 16, Washington began working as a surveyor in the Virginia wilderness. This experience helped him gain valuable knowledge of the land and contributed to his future success as a military leader and landowner.
