Cardboard Cookies: The Secret Recipe is a fascinating blend of dry humor and creepy horror. The point of view of the precocious, opinionated young Mary is an absolute treat. You're sucked in as you're wondering what on earth is happening at this orphanage, and you become attached to the few kind characters in this dark world and fret for their safety. I highly recommend reading this book for a witty, mysterious ride.
