About this ebook

Even stringmasters know fate isn’t always right.

Philippe lives an easy life. As a stringmaster and a fae, the worst he ever faced was banishment from Faerie, and considering the war going on, he almost found that to be a relief.

With a keen understanding of strings and soulmates, Philippe makes no rush to find his own, believing that the universe will guide them together when they are prepared, but when the day comes, Philippe finds his mate isn’t at all what he expected.

That doesn’t stop him from falling head over heels.

Hiram has no time for love. A sorcerer captured his brother, and none of the magical guilds seem interested in doing a thing. With two parents who married for love, Hiram holds a grudge against the idea of red strings, so when the only person interested in helping is some fae stringmaster, he’s rightfully suspicious, but he can’t afford to turn aid away.

Between Philippe’s misplaced confidence and Hiram’s single-minded focus, their love might be doomed before it ever has a chance. Can these two find their way to a happily-ever-after?

A Wizard Mate for the Stringmaster Fae is a gay fantasy romance with mpreg and a HEA.

    Chapter One

No matter how many festivals Philippe attended, he adored the ones in the highlands the best. Mountains rose, tall and proud, around the valley. Snow blanketed their peaks. Crystal blue skies glowed overhead with only the fluffiest clouds in sight. No sign of rain. Only the gentle covering now and then from the cheerful sun. Tents of different colors covered the emerald plains. Magic users and magical beings gathered.

Bright light sparkled over the nearby lake, whose hidden depths offered such wonderful hidden oases for lovers. A group of wizards created spheres which pairs could ride to enjoy the world beneath the waves.

Warlocks and witches toiled over potions for luck and fertility, giving them out with winks at those lovers heading toward the wizards. A perfect choice for the Beltane. Many children and matings would result. For anyone who simply wanted to enjoy another person, the runes embedded in the maypoles would ensure only mates conceived and only if they intended to do so.

The sweet fragrance of delicious foods rose, curling around the fae’s nose where his own tent rested among the stringmasters and psychics. Though he longed to simply enjoy himself and all the pleasures the festival provided, Philippe settled in his seat, crossing one leg of the other as he rested his chin on one hand.

Your mate isn’t in attendance, he informed the witch across from him.

She frowned, scowling. How can you be sure?

Philippe reached out, taking her string in hand. As his fingers touched it, the red cord became visible to her eyes, and the witch gasped.

This cord is going out over the lake and heading up the other side of the mountains. Your mate isn’t here, the fae stressed, brushing a hand through his dark hair as his blue eyes glanced to the growing line awaiting his attention.

Lips twisting into a pout, the witch’s nose twitched. I’m never going to find them!

Studying the string, Philippe hummed. Her. She’s a mortal, so you’ve got some hard days ahead of you.

Can you see anything else? she asked.

Her hope endeared her to him, softening his heart and shoving down his boredom for the time being. Go three towns over and look for your favorite pastry. She’ll be at one of those bakeries.

When she launched herself over the table, hugging him tightly as she cried, Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Philippe was ready.

Having grown up with the sight, he always found people became emotional when presented with the chance to find their soulmate. Even as a child, other fae would lift him off the ground offering him everything they had after he told them where to find true love. Now, in his prime, Philippe enjoyed the attention and easily caught her, patting the witch on the back with a smile.

Good luck, he called, waving as she headed out.

Another came and another, all waiting to be told their mate was either in attendance or how to find them until pinks and purples painted the sky as the sun set over the mountains. Closing his tent for the evening, Philippe headed out into the festival, smiling as the maze of strings around him twisted, pulling people together as music rose.

Groups of unmated men and women danced, enjoying the thrill of being alive and the joy of touching another and being touched. Pairs and trios and more found their way together, kissing and caressing until they stumbled off to darker corners (or not so dark ones). Beautiful beings seeking their pleasure — what could be hotter? Inside his trousers, Philippe’s cock throbbed, aching at the sight of those sensual bodies, thrusting and rocking and grinding against each other as the music rose to a feverish pace.

As he approached, eager to join, a red string pulsed, calling out for his attention. Alongside him in the crowd, two mates risked passing each other without recognizing the bond between them. Reaching out, Philippe tugged the string of a nearby man and cut off a group of sorcerers, so the crowd shifted, shoving the two together. As the pair bumped into each other, their eyes lit up.

Philippe, a familiar voice called, and the stringmaster groaned.

Forcing a smile, Philippe turned to face the older fae. Diodore! How wonderful that we’ve run into each other! What’s that make? Ten festivals this month?

Crossing his arms, Diodore stared the stringmaster down. And this would be the twelfth time I’ve witnessed you going out of your way to unite a pair of fated mates outside of your professional hours?

Glancing aside, Philippe huffed. Is that a bad thing?

It makes me all the more confused about why you haven’t pursued your own, the older fae retorted.

Sighing, the stringmaster stepped to the side, bringing the other fae with him. Fate works well enough on its own. I trust that it acts through me for others with the expectation that I am unknowingly being acted upon in the same way.

Is enjoying the company of those who are not your mate also acts of fate? Diodore growled, crossing his arms over his chest.

It was a familiar argument. While those who could not see the string were not discovered from seeking romance in hopes of stumbling across their fated mate, stringmasters always prided themselves on following the way of the gods. Like gods,
