Chapter One

Bara sat and grinned at the holiday food representing seven countries and six species. Her culinary course had been Luken’s favourite. He had gained ten pounds but sensibly worked out to keep himself under control. It just meant he could eat more.

Reegar and Lee were laughing and chatting with their heads lowered. Imara and Argus were trying to pry Mr. E away from the pie, and the chancellor was laughing.

The four newcomers to the hall were each chatting with their guests, and the food was slowly disappearing.

Reegar paused mid-laugh and said, Oh, Bara. A letter just arrived.

Surprised, she looked at him. Really?

Yes. It has the Wilmington seal on it. Reegar held it up, and it floated across to Bara.

She took the thick parchment envelope and stared at her family crest on one side and her name on the other. There was magic in the parchment.

Bara looked around the table and smiled. Does anyone mind if I go to the library and read this?
