THE EVOLUTION OF THE GOD ILLUSION

As one may have read Cicero in The Nature Of The Gods, ancient people were vivid observers of the sky and the celestial bodies because of their livelihood- they were mostly engaged in agriculture and animal husbandry. The cycles of nature and seasons were the most important factors affecting farming civilizations. The brilliant ‘stars’ Jupiter, Saturn, Venus and the zodiac were also objects of great interest. These heavenly bodies were regarded as deities even by learned philosophers. Cicero and Socrates had a field day demolishing these strongly held prevailing ideas.


One popular god illusion of the West and Middle East began with patriarch Abraham who was an astronomer from Mesopotamia. He studied Jupiter avidly and could predict its behavior which he used it to his advantage in his migration to the Fertile Crescent and in his encounters with hostile inhabitants. Abraham had the delusion that Jupiter-Yahweh was a deity who could be depended to assist him in troubled times.


The Yahweh Delusion was passed down from Abraham to son Isaac and grandson Jacob. Jacob’s 12 sons migrated to Egypt, multiplied and eventually became slaves. Moses a pariah Egyptian prince became the rebel leader of the Hebrew slaves when he discovered his roots.


At the opportune moment, c.1450 BCE, Venus erupted from unstable fast-spinning Red Giant Jupiter and shot into the inner solar system like a billiard ball along a highly elliptical orbit. It had several close encounters with Earth, Moon and Mars and created stunning phenomena or ‘miracles’ such as the much exaggerated Ten Plagues, parting of the Red Sea, the rain of manna, apparent stopping of the Earth’s rotation, and even the destruction of the mighty army of Sennacherib near Jerusalem. Moses and his successors apparently knew and could predict more or less unusual celestial phenomena and attributed them to a tribal deity Yahweh who was connected with their deliverance and survival. Every successful prediction or expectation resulted in augmenting the god illusion.


The god illusion evolved through stupendous sagas, cross fertilized by neighbors and reformers roughly from 1500 BCE to 500 BCE. However, the Hebrews had a confused idea of this savior deity and its feminine aspects, such as the Celestial Cow giving manna-milk. In the evolutionary process, Yahwist patriarchs literally wrote off the influential Goddess and made Yahweh a lone male god of Judaism and Christianity.


The underlying motive developing this god illusion is Moses’ and Israel’s covetousness of the fertile Holy Land. Moses needed a justification to commit genocide, to rob, loot, destroy and drive out people inhabiting the land of milk and honey. The justification is a tribal god of Israelites who gives mandate to his chosen race to rob and steal the Promise Land from ‘evil’ worshippers of false gods!


The underlying theory for this god illusion evolution hypothesis is based on Immanuel Velikovsky’s bestseller of the 1950s, Worlds in Collision. This hypothesis met fierce opposition in academia and Establishment Science. The AAAS Symposium 1974 was convened to address the serious challenge. Here, the author produces abstracts from various experts in various disciplines of sciences and arts to counter objections to the underlying theory. The god illusion presented here is my own interpretation of the psychological impacts and aspects of these astounding celestial phenomena. I am using appropriate knowledge in several disciplines to support my thesis, such as radiation chemistry, upper atmosphere chemistry and behavioral science. My training as a stock analyst to read the underlying environment enables me to read in between the lines, to speculate and connect the gaps and dots together and present a satisfying version of the god illusion.

Strange, Confused Gods:

A Brief Exploration

God is a strange and much-confused being even in this modern millennium. In spite of the advances of modern science, technology, archaeology, philosophy, theology, and the humanities, modern man’s concept of God is still in tatters! Recent surveys indicate that the more educated a person is, the less likely that person believes in a deity or have a religion. Belief is generally inversely proportionate to education and intelligence. About less than 7 per cent scientists believe in God or have a religion. Commenting on the idiocy and radicalism of two women GOP high-flyers, Newsweek says Jefferson was a deist but he didn’t believe in the absurd doctrine that Jesus was the divine Son of God.

Two thousand years ago, the gods in the Roman Empire were actually pieces of dead meat. Yes! Dead emperors were officially elevated and worshipped as gods! And by one brilliant, self-serving political decree at the Council of Nicaea, Emperor Constantine altered the Western concept of God and theology forever! Had it not been for Constantine, today, we would have had Adonis, Hercules, and Attis instead of Jesus as the Son of God, and Zeus, aka Jupiter, as God the Father or the Father of Gods. Also, Roman Catholics would have Hera as ‘Mother of God’ instead of Jewess Virgin Mary! Constantine played a sick political joke at Nicaea with the monstrous Trinity, but two millennia later, our modern scientists and theologians in thousands of universities and colleges around the world are still oblivious to this hoax! Top brains torture their minds to understand this God, while Karen Armstrong in her much convoluted book, The Case for God, urges us to ‘feel’ and imagine God as if He, She, or It is a figment of our imagination. Urrrgh!

Many top theologians in the West are too blinded, conditioned, and indoctrinated to see what St Paul had clearly written. Paul admitted in Romans 3: 7 that he lied for the glory of his God, Jesus Christ! The learned ones are still oblivious to the plain truth that Paul’s Jesus that is God incarnated is the delusion of his damaged brain. That sunstroke and guilty conscience (over his killing and persecution of Christians) made Saul, aka Paul, glorify Christ as a compensation for his crimes. In the following verses, Paul even had the audacity to say that he should not be taken to task for this glorious lie! In the Last Temptation, Kazantzakis had Paul insisting on pedalling this hoax or lie even though he was berated by the resurrected Gospel Jesus for teaching falsehood.

The Judeo-Christian ‘God hypothesis’ continues to corrupt and torture the best brains in science and philosophy over the millennia. The God(s) concept is even worse in the Orient, where most Buddhist, Shinto, and Taoist gods and goddesses are dead people. Every modern police station in westernised Hong Kong, under atheistic Communist China’s sovereignty, has an altar dedicated to Kuan Kung as ‘protector’ and patron, and this idol or icon was the stupid man who had his head ripped off in the novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms.

Concept of God in Science and Scientism

Science (scientism?) seems to have a very confused idea of God. Charles Fort aptly said, over a century ago, that science is an ‘unfocused priesthood’. Some scientists think God is the Perfect Law of Nature, or the First Cause. In the clear light of Cicero’s exposure in The Nature of the Gods, which was magnificently written some two thousand years ago, those who hold such unfocused views as ‘God is the Law of Nature’ or ‘God is Pure Reason’ deserve a dozen firm whacks on the butt.

Scientists are unfocused on the God hypothesis. God is deemed to be the First Cause, the law giver of nature, and because of the Judeo-Christian culture in the West, he is thought to be a cosmic version of a metamorphosed Jehovah, aka Yahweh. Einstein is reported to have said that God didn’t play dice with the universe. However, Einstein erred; in the scripture Yahweh’s prophets cast lots and played with dice in making major decisions. Though P. C. W. Davis wrote aplenty on God, including his classic, God and the New Physics, we still do not know what he is saying or yapping about. Was Davis referring to the cruel, easily angered, and vindictive Yahweh-Elohim? Was he El Shaddai, El Elyon, Yahweh, or the boastful Allah of the Koran? No one knows what god Davis is referring to when one finishes reading the book.

Jehovah God

Though the modern Western concept of God has evolved over the centuries, the underlying deity is still Yahweh (Jehovah) because of the historical Judeo-Christian culture. Yahweh-Jehovah is actually an incompetent tyrant and unworthy God of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and the Jews. Nevertheless, naïve Christians often blazon their buildings and vehicles with such trite as God is love, Jesus saves, or Jesus is God.

Although Professor Hans Küng and Karen Armstrong wrote many books on God, we are not enlightened one micro bit or nano bit! We are still mired in ignorance on the nature of God and mentally muzzled by the schizophrenic doctrine of the Trinity on Western culture. Christendom received a shock and quivered when scholars such as John Day, Mark Smith, and Francesca Stavrakopoulou announced from archeological evidence that Yahweh-Jehovah had a wife, Asherah, and perhaps seventy children gods! In such a scenario, we won’t dare to imagine the impact of the goddess and her children on the Trinity, not to mention Jesus’s own twin Thomas in the Frankenstein Godhead. The much-maligned and—vilified church of Herbert W. Armstrong and Mormons should be credited for inventing a more rational but equally absurd ‘Kingdom of God’ Godhead (consisting of millions of former dead saints). Under the light of structure and reason, the Pagan trinities of ancient Egypt and modern Hinduism are intellectually more palatable.

In retrospect, it is stunning to realize that the great doctors of science and philosophy in the West had tortured their poor brains for two millennia over a joke created by Emperor Constantine and his lackey Bishop Eusebius, which was affirmed as Christian doctrine in the Council of Nicaea. The joke, or buck, stops at St Paul, who was decent enough to admit that he would lie for the glory of Christ (Rom. 3: 7), that he was a chameleon, and that he had not the slightest idea of the reincarnation of god conundrum as ‘the mystery of godliness’. The sparks of enlightenment he received from the resurrected ‘Christ crucified’ during the midday sunstroke at the Damascus Road eventually faded into Rod Serling’s Twilight Zone.

Jehovah is said to be the creator of the universe, but he lives in the ark, which best-selling author, Max Dimont, described as a kind of ‘doghouse’ or cage! So much hyperbole that the whole universe can’t contain him and his glory. (We must refer to Professor Alexander on how God began as a congealed entity from the evolving matrix of space-time together with Schroedinger’s Quantum Cat, or Teilhard de Chardin’s Christ, who evolved from slime to divine in Christogenesis at Omega Point! Urrrghh!)

The Tanakh, or Hebrew Bible, describes Yahweh-Jehovah as a portable God, living and communicating in the ark, aka royal Egyptian coffin. It’s amazing—the Jews, as a race, are smart people (there had been more Jewish Nobel Prize winners per million population in Israel than other races), but when it comes to religion, they are mentally pathetic, even schizophrenic. They leave reason behind when they think religion. This is the Smart-women-foolish-choices syndrome or blind faith syndrome—the Achilles heel of intelligent Jews. The same phenomenon applies to hard-headed, shrewd ethnic Chinese businessmen (the Jews of the East) and Japanese people. It seems that the religious part of their brain consists of useless putty or under-evolved slime.

Professors of theology and philosophy in thousands of universities over two millennia have been torturing their brains sick over a Greco-Roman monster and a ‘ghostified’ Trinity without realizing that it was a sick political Frankensteinian joke. Emperor Constantine assembled the body parts of many gods, including his Sol Invictus and made them into a Gnostic monster, an impossible one-hand-clapping koan! This Christology started as a joke, but it ushered in the Dark Ages, and by the Middle Ages some 50 million heretics and Arians (who believed Jesus as a lesser God) were cruelly tortured and killed.

In spite of the many horrible unholy texts of Old Testament and Koran, religionists insist we praise God and give him glory. I am sure many people are sickened in the gut when they see a car being emblazoned with stupid stickers saying God is love. This is the same Jehovah God who commanded Moses, Joshua, Saul, and several prophets to mass slaughter hundreds of innocent children, married women, and harmless animals! Joshua 6: 21 is one of the many sickening verses where the ‘loving God’ instructs the Israelites to ‘utterly destroy all… both men and women, young and old, and oxen, and sheep, and asses, with the edge of the sword’.

Actually the Gnostics think the creator of this material world was an evil god. They consider him to be an incompetent Apprentice God—the Demiurge—who made a mess of creation. There are stacks of evidence, including Elohim-Yahweh-Jehovah creating planet first before the Sun and the metagalaxies (cluster of galaxies like the Milky Way and the Andromeda), creating plants before the Sun existed to shine on them for photosynthesis. Not a smart God. He is learning from his many blunders as an apprentice.

God the Holy Ghost

Among the many gods of the West, the Holy Ghost is the most confused deity. Within the concept of the Trinity, as crafted by Emperor Constantine (the underwriter of Christianity) and his lackey Bishop Eusebius (who represented the Church), the Holy Ghost is equal in substance, essence, and power with God the Father and God the Son Jesus. He seems to be a nebulous entity, but he is fully God, according to both Catholics and many Protestants!

The Holy Ghost seems to be formless but manifested himself as a dove during Jesus’s baptism at River Jordan. He overshadowed Virgin Mary and made her pregnant. This concept is pagan and not original. Hercules and other demigods in both the Occident and Orient were also sired by father gods such as Zeus-Jupiter, while Confucius’s mother was made pregnant by fumes from the short-tail celestial dragon Kirin—made famous by Kirin Beer. Gautama Buddha was said to be conceived when a white elephant spirit entered the womb of his mother! We deduced that Spirit was the Hindu elephant-headed god Ganesha). The Bible spoke of men being ‘filled’ by the Holy Ghost—as if God was a vapor or fluid. (Actually, he is, as we shall see later his nature and evolution). Jesus ‘breathed’ the Holy Ghost into the disciples after he had met them post-resurrection! (John 20: 22)

It is stunning and crazy to think that God could be transferred from one person to another, but pious Jews and Christians wouldn’t batter an eyelid. In the Acts of the Apostles, God landed on the acolytes as tongues of fire on Pentecost! As we shall see later, the scenario is a recapitulation of the astrophysical phenomena during the Hebrew Exodus from Egypt. A strange God indeed! Because of this ‘strangeness,’ many Christians think the Holy Ghost is not God, but an ‘influence’ proceeding from the Godhead—from the Father and Jesus. The Worldwide Church of God says that a ‘born-again’ person has the Holy Spirit as an indwelling spiritual germ or sperm cell which grows and develops until he eventually becomes God. God is not a trinity of three persons as defined by the Nicene Creed, but a kingdom like plant kingdom or mineral kingdom! The Kingdom of God is made up of many Gods called Elohim—the word is plural.

Apprentice God

He is known also to the Gnostics as the Demiurge, the evil god of the Jews who created the material universe and often identified with Yahweh or Jehovah. This God is a growing, learning god. He made many mistakes and made a mess of Creation. In Genesis, he created Adam but had forgotten to create a woman for him to couple and reproduce. He created ‘imperfect’ men with foreskins and made a big issue of it later. He flooded the world to destroy his botched creation in the Genesis Flood; God had to destroy his creation the second time by fire because he was incompetent in the Genesis Flood. He had to create rainbows to remind him not to kill mankind by flooding the world again. Hmm! Yet theologians and religionists tell us that he is wise, omniscient, and almighty.

He created planet Earth with land masses floating on plate tectonics which often cause volcanic eruptions, shocking earthquakes, tsunamis, and massive destruction. With the continents ever drifting in the arrow of time, on tectonic plates, he still insists mankind keep the ‘drifting’ Sabbath! The Earth even stopped rotating for a long time to let Joshua commit genocide, leading to an illegal robbing of land in the so-called Holy Land.

The Apprentice God was a bad scientist: he created life by trial and error. He created SARS, bird flu, AIDS, H1N1 virus, leprosy, plagues, and zillions of near-invisible viruses and bacteria. He created killer bees, flies, Dengue, Malaria mosquitoes, Nipah virus, polio, various foot-and-mouth diseases, and various dangerous germs and deadly bacteria. He created clumsy monsters like elephants and hippos and river monsters. In short, his IQ is below par. A country bumpkin could do a better job. His saint, Paul, lamented about the whole creation wailing and groaning in suffering. Nature is wreathing red in blood and claws.

Allah

To some 1.4 billion Muslims, there is no God but Allah. Every chapter of the Koran begins with the recitation, ‘In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.’ But do the various texts of the Koran and Islamic history justify this epithet? Allah in the Koran never ceases to curse unbelievers; he seems to enjoy sending humankind to hell. He is fiercer and more vengeful than Jehovah who punishes the sinner up to the third generation. Allah shows no mercy when unbelievers and people who assign partners to him. In fact, in the Koran, Allah won’t change his mind because everything is predestined and written in the mother book inscribed on a stone in heaven from the beginning.

Some naïve theologians equate Allah to Jehovah. The Catholic Herald in Malaysia stirred an angry hornet nest when it won a high court case against the home ministry which banned it from using ‘Allah’ in its Malay version of the newsletter. Some 15,000 copies of the Indonesian Bible containing the word Allah were impounded in Borneo. Hell broke loose immediately when the verdict was announced. The prime minister had to calm angry mobs who objected to the use of ‘Allah’ by non-Muslims in the national language because they feared ‘confusion’ among Muslims. Related to this, Bibles in the Malay language are also banned! In the following days, four churches were torched and several religious sites desecrated by naïve fanatics.

It is obvious that Allah is not Jehovah, but a version of an underling god. One need not be a psychoanalyst to note the difference. Muhammad selected Allah as his God from pre-Islamic pagan Arabia. Allah was once a minor god. Research by scholars and investigators such as Dwardu Cardona showed that Allah = Hubul = planet-god Saturn, or the older god worshipped by Abraham’s father, Terah in Er, Mesopotamia. Its character is different from Yahweh’s, a ‘newer’ god of Abraham. Allah is associated with planet god El, while Yahweh is associated with planet Jupiter. Thus, briefly, god Allah = Saturn, whereas god Jehovah = Roman god Jupiter = Greek god Zeus. The two gods have different characters as one can observe while reading the Torah and the Koran. Any person with average IQ, basic theology (comparative religious knowledge), and an analytical mind can arrive at that conclusion.

When the ancients observed the spectacular antics of Saturn in the sky, they commemorated it on Earth. Thus when they saw the seven colorful rings of Saturn rotate around the planet, the pagans in Mecca (before Islam ritualized it) circumambulated the Kaaba where the idol Hubul or Saturn was housed. Muhammad had the idols removed except the meteorites. They went round the Kaaba seven times in unison with the wonderful celestial phenomena above. This money-generating pagan pilgrimage (now hajj) was continued by astute Muhammad!

Allah is said to have ninety-nine names or noble qualities. But before the pious people get carried off and start a war, remember that many of the properties or qualities are mutually exclusive or contradicting.

While the ‘just’ God Jehovah punishes the sinner to the third generation, Allah is even more vengeful. First he leads people astray (Sura 13, v. 27) and then he gleefully punishes men and jinn: ‘Verily I shall fill hell with the jinn and mankind together’ (Sura 10, v. 119). The unbeliever or those who ascribe partners to Allah will be rewarded ‘a boiling drink and a painful doom because they disbelieved’ (Sura 10, v. 5). They are taunted with ‘taste the torment of eternity’ (Sura 10, v. 53). Allah had prepared a terrible punishment: ‘We have prepared a painful doom’ (Sura 17, v. 10). He is not done with painful, relentless eternal punishment: Though the skin of the sinner is burnt in the Fire, Allah makes new skin to grow so that the sinner will suffer more pain and punishment. Hmm! ‘Those that deny Our revelation We will burn in fire. No sooner will their skins be consumed We will give them other skins, so that they may truly taste the scourge. God is mighty and wise’ (Sura 4, v. 55-56).

Allah is fierce although each chapter of the Koran mentions his beneficence and mercy. And scattered all over the Koran are numerous praises of Allah being the Wise, the Knower, the Forgiving, the Merciful, and so on (e.g. Sura 9, vv. 21, 27, 28, 69; Sura 6, v. 17; Sura 25, v. 86; etc.).

God Jesus

When I was eight, I had a shock when my Adventist Sabbath School teacher told me that Jesus was also God. A decade later, I was staggered when the Catholic La Salle Brothers said that the pathetic and much-tortured, writhing-in-agony, blood-dripping, naked-to-the-groin wimpy Jew on the cross is the World Savior and God of the universe! Is that effete, turn-the-other-cheek and yet ‘buy sword’ rebel the Creator? Really? Do the professors and doctors of theology in hundreds of universities and theological colleges expect intelligent people to believe that the suffering Jew to be the incarnation of the great God of the universe? Even Saint Paul, filled to the brim by the Holy Spirit or God himself was not able to explain the incarnation. His lame excuse was three words: the ‘mystery of godliness.’

The idea that the historical and biological man Jesus was God originated from paganism and repackaged by Paul. Professors of various theological colleges and top world universities regard Paul’s words as inspired by God the Holy Spirit, but he was a chameleon, a radical, and a great liar! He lied for God Jesus and thought it was not a sin! Thus, he brazenly admitted, ‘If the truth of God hath more abounded through my lie unto his glory why yet am I also judged a sinner? (Rom. 3: 7). Paul, the former murderer and schemer, had been sprouting nonsense and lies ever since he suffered a stroke on his murderous journey to Damascus. Besides accepting Paul’s false and irrational Christology by faith, millions of our pastors and theologians have not hesitated in blindly promoting his sick delusions and infantile nonsense. Paul made Jesus into God! He used Jesus as the human, historical mold upon which he poured essences
