A FRESH START

I ARRIVED IN ROME WITH a blank mind, ready to receive anything that would make me a new and improved me.

England had left big holes in my chest... holes I did not intend to fill here in Rome, only to forget.

My father was clear, if I wanted our company to be the best, I would have to learn to separate my work from my life, it's hard when your company is at the top of the fashion industry, and you have the most beautiful models in your portfolio.

But that's over, I need a new start, one outside of England, away from my mistakes.

I was walking down the huge aisles of the airport and smiled when I met the gaze of one of my oldest friends, a legend from my youth.

- THOMAS!

I put down my suitcase to give him a hug.

- I thought you would be arriving on your jet.

- Chris had to take a trip.

- And Chris Lennox can't use the commercial flight?

- It's work Thomas don't start now.

- Come on then... you have to see how everything is here, it is all ready, the building, your apartment, everything brother, your sports car arrived this morning and is waiting for us in the parking lot. I called your assistant to make sure it’s here on time. I hope you don't mind.

I smile.

- It gives me great pleasure to see you again Thomas.

We board the sports car, which I like, a lot, and now that I remember, I know well why I like it, and it is that a month ago I chose it. I wanted a fresh start, and I gess this is part of it...

I board the car and so does Thomas.

- Long time no see friend, how are you doing?

- I think I have an idea who they are, are they a couple?

He keeps his eyes on the road and drives to my beautiful house which is somewhat removed from the urbanity of Rome.

I sigh.

- Isn't it too big?

- That's how big your expectations are Damon.

I shrug my shoulders and nod.

We pull into the parking area and get out, I see Tom's car next to my white Audi and my black Maserati.

- Hey .- he throws me my car keys .- I'll wait for you here, at this address - he throws me a fancy card, with an address written on it - I want you there Lennox .

- I'll be there. - I say as I look at the card. Thomas gets in his car and drives off like a bullet towards the track... I look at the house, and sigh.

Shit, it's bigger than my goals in life, I mean, at 32 what the fuck can I even want in the world, I have everything I could have... or well, I did, and I lost it for being an idiot... but that's another story.

I sigh again, grab my bags and enter the house, it took me a few seconds to remember the passcode, but I did, finally. I look around, I don’t know where to start. I go up to my room and arrange my clothes, I guess Lennox will take care of sending me the outfits I already ordered.

My cell phone rings...

I roll my eyes.

- Lennox ...

- Mr. Lennox, how was your flight?

- Rachel, it was great, everything okay?

- Yes Sir. I'm just calling to let you know that the helicopter you want in Rome is only available in white with the characteristics you want, and if you want it in the color we agreed on, you would have to wait a month.

- Hmmm. The white one then, and my glider?

- White as snow, it arrives tomorrow in Rome.

- Rachel, you are the best.

- Have an excellent stay in Rome Mr. Lennox, you will certainly be missed here.

- Especially by you I bet, you won't have anyone to nag you, although I think Chris will get in charge of that.

- Probably. Haha.

- Go home for the day.

- Sir, but it's 4 hours before I have to leave.

- Go home, if they tell you anything tell them to talk to me. Go home with your son Rachel.

I hang up.

I finish arranging my things and throw myself on the bed, what am I going to do with so much free time?

I sigh and after a while I fall asleep.

When I wake up I feel alarmed.

The appointment...

I look at the clock.

I frown.

I jump in the shower as fast as I can.

I get out and get dressed the same way.

I leave the house and drive, it's been a long time since I was in Rome and I barely recognize some places, the good thing is that the card has the map on the back and I can follow it perfectly.

When I arrive at the luxurious venue, I get out of the car, I arrange my jacket and a young man receives the keys of my car.

- Good evening, sir. - He says to me in perfect English and I reciprocate the greeting, the flashes of the cameras invade me.

"It's Damon Lennox.

Mr. Damon what is the reason for your visit in Rome?

Will Lennox make business with HD?

I don't answer and step inside the luxurious meeting point.

- You never go unnoticed.

- Why didn't you tell me there would be press?
