"The adventures of a travelin' man"
1 My name is David M. Newsome. This book is true, to the best of my knowledge. The dates are not in order. I'll put names of the people I write about only using their first names. I'll try to show the utmost respect to those who deserve it. I was born in Modesto, California. The year was 1958. April the 14th. It was the same month & day that some terrible events happened, unfortunately. Three of those were: Abraham Lincoln's assasination in 1846 I believe. The Titanic hit an iceberg in 1912. The third one that I can think of the worst sand & dirt storm hit Oklahoma & its surrounding states. It was called the Dust Bowl.
That happened in 1935. It was so large & powerful that the Capital of the United States: Washington District of Columbia (Washington, D.C.) had dust inside it's building. So much for the bad things. Huh? My Mom & Dad entered me in a baby Contest
in Modesto, CA. I won first place! A little blue ribbon was awarded to me.
The only other ribbon that I remember, was the second place ribbon I won in Track. The track-meet was in the city of Hughson, CA. It was the Hughson Invitational track meet. It was the 440 meter. I had never even practiced track at Ceres High School in Ceres, CA. I was about 15-16 years old.
I remember crawling around in the cloth diapers, believe it or not. I've been in many different modes
of traveling, since then. For example; rapelling from a helicopter, cliff & tower. Slid
down on the life-line,
crawled, marched, hiked in the Army. This back in 1981-1983? I left the infantry's third battalion sevententh infantry division in 1983. I got out
on a General Discharge under Honorable condition.
I was kinda like a bad boy.
I wanted out while the getting' out was good Ha! Don't take me wrong, I would've fought or died, had the time came. I did show the Marine's how I did the obstacle course. They come from Camp Pendleton, CA.
They were really impressed.
The Marine's did their hu-rahs
! I really enjoyed the obstacle course, with the un-even bars, the climbing of ropes, ect… I bought a 1969 Road-Runner while I was stationed at Fort Ord, CA. We took a pen-lite
plane to Fort McCoy Wisconsin. It was on a winter training trip.
Also, by plane, we landed in Camp Pendelton for a simulated Jungle training eventure.
My processing
place was in Fort Jackson, S.C. My basic training & Advanced Individual training (A.I.T.) was in Fort Benning, GA. Yes, it was tough. I did have some good times. The food (chow) was good.
The first long-distance trip was leaving for Kent Washington the first time. I had got a ride from Modesto to a truck-stop. It was only about thirty miles away. While I was relieving myself on the toilet, in the stall, when the door opened. A man had come in. I said, I'll be out as soon as possible. He then said, you know I could kill you & nobody would know. I was scared. I told him I wish he wouldn't. I didn't even try to see who it was. He left. As I
