Author

J. Darion Dubois

This book is written and illustrated by Darion Dubois, a retired ad agency art director who lives in California. The title of the book unexpectantly came to him 40 years ago while working and he drew a little sketch of the lovely Mrs. Puddleduck and her giant pansies. Years later, Darion felt inspired to write down her story in his first book. He said he didn't know where or why the words of the story came to him, but wrote them down and painted the pictures so that those who read and look at this book will come away with a happy feeling.

    Dedication

This book is dedicated to my wife Ailene, who has believed in me all through the fun, crazy, good, bad, terrific, disappointing and wonderful years we’ve been together. To Harlan Rector and Cynthia Kwitchoff for their help, guidance and professional talents. To my wonderful Family and Friends. I consider them all integral elements in the publication of this book. I hope all who read it enjoy happiness from the experience.

The rain fell steadily on Wide Spot, a portion of road in the middle of nowhere that ran from where you had been to where you were going. It was surrounded by everything, and Mrs. Puddleduck was in the center of it.

Wide Spot was the name the animals and forest creatures gave it; but at one time it was a small town with people, families that lived, played, worshipped, and worked happily together until the new highway bypassed all of them.

Many of the people had moved away to find another place in the surrounding everything as there was no work to support them in the town, they used to call home. This left a few families, all the animals and birds pretty much alone.

It was also the home of an elderly goose named Mrs. Puddleduck. She spent her days collecting grasses, nuts, berries, shiny glass, unusual bottles, field flowers, worrying about the town, and the future of the inhabitants, which also included many birds and animals.

As Mrs. Puddleduck waddled along the weather beaten, grass infested, cracked asphalt road, she was thinking of when it was new; how it used to shine in the sun and looked so pretty at night when the rain reflected the moon.
