Preface
In the winter of 2008, I met a young man in the Sherwood High School library who was unique and different. His sad look was interesting. His choice of books was interesting. I could tell that there was more to this book
than the cover. By the time I heard part of his story, he disappeared, only to return the next school year. His name was Lyle (not his real name) and we became good friends.
When he came back, he said; Look I am even writing poetry now.
He showed me his journal with a healthy number of poems and stories. Don’t believe the rumors about me.
He said, shaking his head. They are not true, but I can’t call back the lies. I can’t NOT do what is right or help others. It is my curse.
Well, a talented, lively person like this can NOT be ignored. In reality, this student disappeared again, but most recently appeared again to tell me he is doing ok, graduated from college and is following his writing dream. He was off to some job interviews in the mid-west.
A poem is a very special kind of writing.
