Chapter One
The Halloween Party
The flame flickered in the grinning face of the Jack-o-lantern on the huge old mantel of the fireplace. Secret passages, unsolved mysteries, and ghosts. Welcome to the Great Room of the of the Manor.
Christie grinned as she grabbed a cupcake from the long table in the center of the room and sat back down with the others. Indeed,
Anderson nodded and stared at the fire. The rain started to fall harder on the ancient slate roof and the wind made the windows creak and groan like moaning spirits.
Come on, tell us your ghost story,
she begged.
Very well. I'll tell you my latest ghost story. Just don’t say I didn’t warn you.
Oh come on, how bad could it be?
Tom asked with a chuckle.
Bad enough. I wouldn’t have believed it myself if I hadn’t been there, but I saw that thing. And it was walking around, there’s no doubt about that. So you're all wondering what happened to the jar? Why I'm so hesitant to tell the tale? The problem is I don’t think you’ll believe me. And if you do, you won’t want to go to the museum anymore at night. You wonder why one so used to writing horror stories should appear so reticent to tell them? Perhaps, too, you notice a furtive, haunted manner about my estate when you visited last? Not an unusual event, my friends. As you know. But would you like to hear about it? About what we found?
Oh come on Anderson. Tell us already,
the Professor chuckled. It's all good Halloween fun.
Sure, that's how it always starts. Then there's running and screaming... and changing your pants.
Oh I hope so... That's what we're all here for after all! Not the pants changing part. Not again. We could use a spine tingling mystery I mean.
Christie said handing out huge bowls of popcorn. Outside the storm roared up in new found fury
