About this ebook

Making the Most of Your Child's Baptism is a short full colour guide for parents bringing their child for baptism in the Church of England. In this baptism guide you'll find a full explanation of the baptism service, its meaning and symbolism.

Making the Most of Your Child's Baptism is ideal for anglican churches to gift to parents who ask for their children to be baptised. It follows the Common Worship Baptism service and is full colour throughout, making it attractive for parents and godparents as they prepare for their child's baptism.

Aimed at those not familiar with church, Making the Most of Your Child's Baptism is structured around the service itself and includes questions to think about and follow up activities for parents, godparents and children.

    About this book

    You’re probably reading this book because you would like your child to be baptized or christened, which is a wonderful thing to do.

    You might be more familiar with the term ‘christening’ than ‘baptism’. The two words are both talking about the same thing. You might find it helpful to think that during the christening your child will be baptized, just as during a wedding people are married, so we’ve used both words in this book.

    Baptism or christening is a very special event in your child’s life. It’s your child’s first step on a journey of faith. It’s also important for the whole family, so this book aims to:

    •explain what baptism/christening is and explore the baptism service;

    •suggest ways of helping your child grow up as part of God’s family;

    •suggest ways in which your child’s baptism can help the whole family grow in faith together.

    We hope you’ll enjoy and treasure this book for many years to come.

    A note about words

    This book includes some words from the baptism service. There is more than one version of the service, but we have featured the words that are used in most churches. If your church
