Back in those days along CCC the best weatherman was a Grandpa who could walk out from the front porch look skyward, feel something in the breeze, taste something in the wind, watch a bird fly, see what the cows were doing then turn around and declare, ‘norther will blow by 3 AM, temperature will drop 25 degrees and snow will commence mid morning for sure.’

On his over -sight alone extra wood would be piled, mules and horses would be stabled, more hay thrown into feed troughs, and dogs and cats accommodated inside the plank wood house that leaked chilled air like a flour sifter.
