FOREWORD
Study Guide for Darkness Comes in Like a Flood
Welcome.
Welcome to a deeper walk in our Omega Point Series and its second novel, Darkness Comes In Like a Flood (Little Tree Media, October 2020).
When we were writing it, we had no idea how much darkness would come in like a flood at publication time. But despite an overwhelming tide, no one can cancel
Jesus Christ! The Lord does not want us to be anxious, fearful, or passive but trusting in His great promises and equipped for every good work
(2 Timothy 3:17). We hope this little book will help you do that.
When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him. Isaiah 59:19 (KJV)
But thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumphal procession, and through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of him everywhere. 2 Corinthians 2:14
And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work. 2 Corinthians 9:8
When a great multitude came against King Jehoshaphat and his people, the Lord instructed him to respond with faith and praise (2 Chronicles 20:20–21). We have the same call today.
Who are we?
Let’s start with some introductions. We trust you’ve read The Glittering Web, the first book in the Omega Point Series, and now have read the second book, Darkness Comes In Like a Flood. Our series arose out of our lives both before and after Christ rescued us, so we wrote it to share the truth and confront the times.
We met in 1962 in an anarchist meeting in San Francisco and for fourteen years were immersed in the counterculture rebellion that began in the Sixties on the West Coast. In 1976, Jesus Christ rescued us and began transforming our lives. As part of that transformation, we awakened to the tremendous paradigm shift our nation has been undergoing since then—a change away from a Christian worldview and into an intensely dark pagan one. It’s a transformation that deeply fuels our writing.
If you’d like more details, you can read Glorifying the Savior / Exposing Deception: Why We Wrote The Omega Point Series on our website blog here. ¹ (By the way, all links are in the footnotes.)
We also talk about it on our October 24, 2020 radio podcast interview on the Parker J Cole Show. You can listen to it at the link below. ²

Who are Loren and Eve Montcrest? Creating this study has been a great opportunity to think about God’s work in our lives and what He offers all Christians. Yes, our characters Loren and Eve Montcrest are based somewhat on ourselves, warts and all, but not entirely. They’re real fictional persons (an oxymoron?) in their own right who formed out of our hearts and experiences over the years and have their own story to tell—a story about an undying Savior in a world where darkness seems to reign.
The Glittering Web left our couple as new Christians just becoming aware of the evil they’ve been living in. Jesus Christ had rescued them from the devil’s realm and hell. As book two opens, they are facing persecution with little support in a world controlled by demonic powers and under great spiritual deception. They only know that everything they believed was wrong, but they have a wonderful Savior.
They are also facing the struggle with their own sinful natures and the fallen world system. In other words, they’re like new Christians today. We hope Loren and Eve will turn out to be faithful, but who knows? The warfare is intense. The worldly powers are aligned against Christ and His followers. Our sinful natures are deceitful and rebellious, and the devil and his demons hate us.
You’ll just have to stick with this series to see what happens to them!
How to use this study
In the meantime, we hope we can help you be faithful to Christ and grow in discernment and understanding of the battle all Christians face. Each chapter raises relevant issues both to the story and to the times, and we’ve tried to make it easy and exciting to delve into them. Here’s how it’s set up:
The Story. Each study begins with a short summary of that chapter along with questions to stimulate your thoughts. Answer as many or as few as you want. You won’t be graded
!
Our View. A section called Our View
follows that reveals our thinking behind the chapter.
Going Deeper. A Going Deeper
section then follows with an in-depth look at important and timely related issues.
Resources. Sometimes we recommend helpful resources
Note: Just a reminder—all links are in the endnotes.
Group or Individual
You can do this study either individually or as part of a group, or perhaps you’d like to start your own study group. The next section will help you do just that. Maybe you'd like to have a Zoom group or set up a regular online live group. Email us at authors@richardandlindanathan.com if we can help.
