Professor Ouele
Professor Ouele is a teacher as well as a consultant in education. He holds a Ph.D. in education. He holds two master's degrees: the first one in philosophy and the second one in special education. He also holds two bachelor's degrees: one in business administration and another one in education. He has been a teacher since 1992. He has taught various subjects at all grade levels in general education, in various countries. He switched to special education for two reasons: first, students with disabilities need more help, and he wanted to dedicate most of his time to supporting them; second, he is physically impaired. He always uses his own example as a successful person with impairment to motivate his students. He has a clear understanding of the challenges the school system is undergoing. For him, the educational system is collapsing and needs urgent therapy.Professor Ouele is the author of several books, among them Beyond Stairs (or Au-delà des escaliers) - which will soon be made into a movie. Professor Ouele is also a musician and the author-composer of several albums. He is, finally, an activist. He fights for a fairer world and considers himself as the voice of the voiceless.

Introduction
The state of health of a country’s education system gives an idea of the economic and political health of the country. Many countries that have understood this are emphasizing the improvement of their education systems. When education is sick, it is as if the whole system is sick. To say today that education is in bad shape is not an exaggeration. What is taught to students today and the merits of how it is taught are debatable. The quality of education is declining; teachers lack motivation and leave their profession, and it is not easy to find their replacements. Students seem to have lost interest in school for several reasons: the levels of violence on campus are becoming unacceptable, and the students and their families do not approve of what is imposed on them in the classroom, which is often not in line with daily reality. Further, politics dictates what education should be, which is often not accepted by students, parents, and teachers. The COVID-19 pandemic worsened the situation.
The multiple issues that are ruining the education system worldwide inspired me to write this book. I have a Ph.D. in education, and I’ve been teaching since 1992 at almost all levels and in several countries — positioning me as an expert in this field. In this, Volume 1, I perform an autopsy of the educational system and name some issues that undermine it through Part 1, as well as some practices in Part 2 to remedy the illness befalling our students.
I do not claim to have developed all the concepts in this book. References for research cited can be found in the back. I hope that my modest contribution can be taken into consideration by the actors of education, in particular the students, teachers, and families as well as the decision makers. I believe that strong and immediate action must be taken to avoid the worst outcome for a society of inadequately educated people.
Preface
Our education system is broken. Many students go from class to class without having the appropriate level of prerequisites. Many students have missed portions of their intended learning and complete their studies with a lot of gaps. The COVID-19 pandemic highlights the failing education system. As the pandemic wanes, it feels like there is a dip in enthusiasm from teachers, students, and parents. All seem to need moral support.
The pandemic has exposed the shortcomings of the education system. The education system is broken in various ways. The pandemic has made the situation worse. Research indicates that the pandemic has put students two years behind, academically. The first part of this book highlights the challenges facing the education system. The second part of the book provides some recommendations for solving these problems.
