    Chapter One

Deborah had done her best to maintain her composure. She knew it would be a terrible idea to make her true feelings known in front of other members of the Royal Commission for the Exhibition of 1851! So, breathing hard, she excused herself from the meeting room. She was followed quickly by her father, Sir Eliah Miller, the famed philanthropist.

Eliah's tone changed. Deborah! We'll progress more quickly because of your proposed planning and organizational changes. You defined the type of building structure we need. The ideas will appeal to both exhibitors and visitors!

He continued, laboring the points, I don't think any of this would be possible without you. Your knowledge of our iron foundry business and instinct for design has been pivotal. These gentlemen won't be able to deny that – no matter how much they might want to! He chuckled.

He was gratified to see that the furrow in her brow seemed to have relaxed. Her jaw wasn’t quite as clenched as it had been. He thought that he was getting through to her. After her mother’s death, he raised her with the motto, "prove
