It’s been a while since I made the trek up to the arena. I know Dad has been asking me to make an appearance since I got home yesterday, but the jet lag had my bed holding me prisoner.

My semester overseas did me good. I learned a lot, and now I need a break. I'm craving that time with my family. I need the reboot, to be honest.

I did change while being an ocean away. I almost feel as if I found a part of myself that was missing. I’m more confident than I’ve ever been. I’m healthier than I’ve ever been.

    I kept the curves, though.

I started focusing on when I feel happy and comfortable in my own skin, and here I am. A new outlook. A bigger smile to show the happiness I’ve found.

I make my way into the parking lot, and a surge of familiarity flows through me. I used to be here all the time growing up. Dad and me on the ice.

\I look up at the new sign out front and feel my head tilting to try to see why they made it so much bigger. It seems to be taking over the whole front of the building.

I cringe a little. I’m happy they’ve been doing well enough to make changes, but that seems a bit excessive for my taste.

I park next to Dad’s large pickup truck, take a peek in the mirror at my hair and makeup, and when I decide it’s good enough to see everyone, I get out.

And by everyone, I mean a bunch of hockey players. Probably ripped ones with sexy smiles.

I wasn’t necessarily looking to date, but you don’t walk into a room of drooling jocks with bedroom eyes without first looking your best.

The fresh air is practically carrying me along with the breeze to the front door. I regret leaving my sweater behind at the house. The cold air from inside the rink slides along my skin, making goosebumps rise along my arms and chest.

I try to cover my chest while cursing myself, knowing exactly what can be seen if I move my arms back down to my sides.

The players don’t need to see me for the first time with my nipples cutting right through my top.

So much for my confident walk inside. I don’t need any girlfriends thinking I’m here for a hook-up with one of their guys. In fact, I’m anything but one of those puck bunnies who comes around to see if she can cling onto a player and ride that stick all the way to the goal.

    I’m the coach’s daughter.

Seeing some of the players moving around on the ice, I wish I wasn’t considered off-limits, but we can’t pick our parents.

I move quietly along the wall of glass, admiring how dedicated they all are to the game. My dad is standing to the side with his back to me. He has his clipboard in hand and is shouting out different players’ names.

I recognize some of them. Jakob I only recognized from pictures. And Dad’s play-by-play.

There wasn’t a week that went by where Dad didn’t tell me about building his ultimate dream team; the only professional hockey team in Salt Lake City.

Ironic since it’s the perfect place.

Adrien’s the team’s resident bad boy, and I’ve already been warned to stay away. Cayden and Jeremiah are two of my favorite players who I suggested he snatch up after seeing how amazing they were when we all got to college. I attended every damn game because I’m actually a fan.

I give a little wink as Cayden goes flying past me on the ice. He catches me and sends a small wave my way before slamming into another player.

I wince a bit as they get up off the ice and turn away, pretending I wasn’t the cause.

That’s when his ocean-blue eyes slam into mine.

My breath catches in my throat, and I go to take a step with my eyes still on him. I definitely realize my error in foot placement as I take a long fall off a very tiny ledge right onto the ice. Cayden comes rushing back with a giant grin on his face.

Still the most coordinated person I know, Krys. His chuckle has me smiling as I brush myself off and mentally take note of any injuries.

I look up into his eyes and shake my head at him. Thanks for the help.

Look who just made her grand fall, I mean entrance! Jeremiah comes at me quickly on the ice and stops so suddenly a spray of ice hits me. His arms wrap around me. You look great! Did you have a good semester?

Both of their eyes are on me, but I watch as Austin’s ocean eyes look at me in disgust before he skates away.

    I
