    About the Author

    Chapter 1

It was ten years after the horrible incident in 2001, when we lost the World Trade Centers to a terrorist attack. The American people and their government still feared the worst—always wondering when the next bomb would decimate a city block, or worse, a nuclear war. Those days had never come, but the government still felt it needed to protect the people at any cost. Every day crime was rising, people were dying, and no one knew how to respond to the attacks of resentful people toward our country. That was until the fateful day—when a young genius arrived at the Pentagon.

My name is Castro. I am here by request of Officer Maze, the man said into the loudspeaker just outside the large gate. There was no response other than a loud buzzer and the sound of a huge metal gate opening before him. The young scientist walked into the building and said nothing to the two-armed guards that stood along either side of him as they escorted him to the main office. The three of them took an elevator up to the highest floor, and once it finished the ascent, the guards walked him to the main door of an office, opened the door via key card, and left him by himself to enter the huge room.

Castro wore his usual lab coat and black jeans as he always did when he attended meetings or in his lab. He was never one for formal attire as he felt it was beneath his level of intelligence.

It is good to finally meet you, Castro Ray, was it? the officer said as he pointed the scientist to a seat and asked if he wanted anything to drink. He declined but gladly took the leather recliner.

He stared at the man and noticed his badge with the name Maze printed on it. He smiled at this opportunity to share his wonderful idea with the man in the suit.

You are aware of why we have summoned you here, Castro? Maze said with a stern voice. The young scientist nodded and opened his briefcase to show diagrams and graphs of a very peculiar device.

This is the answer to the world's dilemma, Castro said with a smile.

The two men talked for a while; almost four hours went by before Castro walked to the elevator, descended to the bottom floor, and had passed the huge metal gate to the outer wall of the Pentagon. The young scientist was extremely pleased with the conversation he just had. The briefcase with ten billion dollars proved as much. He waved goodbye to the building before entering the back of a white limo.

Praise be to Ammit, Castro proclaimed to the driver with an excited and almost twisted smile as the vehicle drove off into the night.

Castro arrived in his lab in New York a few days later and walked down the long hallway to his office. He sat down at his desk, put the briefcase of money down next to him, and took a deep sigh of relief. Not that he needed the money from the government, but it helped greatly to help fund his research and testing. An armed guard entered his room and welcomed him home.

Welcome back, my lord, the man said to Castro in a submissive manner as if worshiping him. Castro raised his hand for a moment, then lowered it to his side. The scientist stood up, took off his coat, and hung it on the chair behind him, then sat down, relaxing.

He put his head down on his desk and tried to catch some sleep, but that only lasted about an hour before the same guard rushed back into his office, this time with an alarmed look in his eyes.

Your test subject is acting up again, the guard said before leaving the room.

Castro left his office and locked the door behind him, entering his
