Let Us Out!
The Haunting at The Manor
By Z. K. Nelson
Chapter 1: Lost in the Endless Darkness
Aday before Halloween , the group of friends gathered in Mel’s cozy living room, surrounded by the faint glow of candles that set a spooky atmosphere. Mel, known for her love of all things thrilling, had a suggestion that sparked the idea of an unforgettable ladies' night out.
Hey, how about we make Halloween even more exciting this year?
Mel proposed, her eyes gleaming with mischief. Let's go to a haunted house, just us ladies.
Trish, the resident horror enthusiast, practically jumped at the idea. Oh, I’m so in! I’ve been waiting for an excuse to test my bravery.
Shamika, though initially hesitant, couldn't resist the prospect of an adventure. With a sly grin, she exclaimed, Okay, I’ll admit I’m a little scared, but I’m in. No one better touch me inside, though, or they'll get a surprise they won't forget!
Tanisha, the group's skeptic, raised an eyebrow but ultimately decided to join in the Halloween fling. Well, it's not exactly my thing, but it does sound like fun.
Alright, ladies,
Mel declared, clapping her hands together. Are you all ready for tomorrow night?
The haunted house they'd chosen was known as The Manor, and its reputation preceded it. The Manor was a grand, decaying mansion that loomed gloomy on the outskirts of town. Its once lavish exterior had succumbed to years of neglect, with creeping ivy, shattered windows, and decaying woodwork that bore the scars of countless Halloweens past.
Definitely ready,
they all chimed in.
With excitement and a hint of nervousness, the ladies left Mel’s house, their hearts filled with anticipation for the night that awaited them. The following day, they would embark on an adventure that promised to be both thrilling and chilling.
The following day, as the sun dipped below the horizon and the Halloween moon began to rise, the four friends gathered at Mel’s house once more, their costumes adding an extra layer of mystery to the occasion.
Mel, the group's fearless leader, had transformed herself into a glamorous vampire queen. Her raven-black hair cascaded elegantly around her shoulders, and her crimson gown and regal demeanor exuded a captivating allure. Her smoky makeup highlighted her striking features, and her bright smile revealed a hint of mischief.
Trish, the horror enthusiast, had embraced her gothic side. her short, jet-black hair was spiked in wild rebellion, and her pale makeup and dark eyeliner gave her a ghostly appearance. Dressed in black leather, she looked like a character straight out of a horror movie, ready to confront whatever The Manor had in store.
Shamika, known for her daring spirit, had opted for a wicked witch costume. Her long, flowing black robes, adorned with spiderwebs and mystical symbols, gave her an air of enchantment and mystique. A pointed hat perched atop her head, and her wicked cackle added an element of playful maliciousness to her character.
Tanisha, the group's skeptic, had chosen a practical yet mysterious costume. She appeared as a detective, complete with a trench coat and magnifying glass. Her skeptical expression and inquisitive demeanor made her look like a seasoned investigator ready to unravel the secrets of The Manor.
With their costumes complete and their anticipation building, the ladies set off for The Manor. The wind rustled through the autumn leaves, creating an eerie backdrop for their adventure. As they approached the mansion, its imposing silhouette seemed to grow even more chilling in the dim moonlight.
The Manor's creaking door invited them inside, and the flickering candles inside formed unsettling, twirling shadows on the massive, crumbling walls. The friends took a deep breath, exchanged excited glances, and stepped across the threshold into the haunted unknown, ready to embrace the spine-tingling horrors that awaited them.
This looks just like in the movies,
Trish remarked, her eyes scanning the eerie, dimly lit hallway.
Yeah, a little too real if you ask me,
added Tanisha, her skepticism heightening as they ventured deeper into the mansion.
Come on, guys. don't chicken out already. The fun is just about to get started,
Mel encouraged, her voice filled with a mix of excitement and dedication.
As they exchanged nervous smiles, a sudden, chilling breeze swept through the hallway, sending shivers down their spines. It was as if the very walls of The Manor were whispering secrets of an ancient era, and the adventure that awaited them was about to take an unsettling turn.
What is that standing at the end of the hallway?
Shamika’s voice quivered as she pointed ahead.
It looks like someone is standing there with something in their hand,
Tanisha said, her apprehension growing.
Aw come on, it might just be a statue. It hasn't moved from that spot,
Trish reasoned, attempting to dispel the mounting tension.
But just as they were about to dismiss it as a harmless sculpture, the figure they had assumed to be a statue started to move toward them. The ladies froze in their tracks, their hearts pounding in unison. In the face of this uncanny, creeping presence, fear took over.
Without a second thought, Shamika bolted in the opposite direction, her footsteps echoing in the
