The past weeks have been a blur. Under Tyana’s tutelage, I’ve learned things about the nature of magic I’ve never thought possible. When you’re a student at the Academy of Magicks, you’re taught that the study of the arcane is the highest calling your mind can strive for. You are trained to believe that your intellect, your reasoning, the analytical part of your brain is the only thing that can help you understand the universe of magic as a whole. To allow your base instincts, your desires, and anything that’s basically not your conservative intuition is to allow chaos to thrive and distract from your study. It leads to unclean magic, an inferior distillation of the arcane. It’s something ingrained in you, to where I can’t think of anyone that might have tried anything else. We have stories of those who tried, only to have them banned by the Academy and banished from practicing magic forever.

With Tyana, our work has felt more holistic than I’ve ever experienced. When I’m casting sensory magic, as she calls it, there’s a stability to my incantations, like I was trying to tightrope walk on one leg using just one part of my consciousness to cast magicks. When I cast sensory, I feel like anything is possible. Every single bit of my being is part of my spell, and the end result is so much more powerful because of it. It also just feels natural as well, like this was the way I was supposed to be casting magic in the first place. Why would the Masters at the Academy forbid this kind of innate power?
