Chapter 1: The Call of Mars
For ages, humans have been fascinated by Mars as it is the fourth planet from the Sun. Its red glow has inspired lots of creative works as technology improves and we learn more about space, people are getting more and more excited about the possibility of going to Mars.
The idea of exploring Mars has been around for quite some time now. People have been looking at Mars for centuries In the olden times, people believed that Mars was a symbol of their gods in the night sky They think of Mars as a place of war and bravery.
The planet Mars was named after a Roman deity, interesting! The Romans thought Mars looked fierce because it was named after their war god It's interesting how ancient people thought that stars had meaning.
With better telescopes, we can see Mars clearly and want to learn more about it Mars is a really cool planet, scientists have found out a lot about it the planet has polar ice caps and changes as we observe its surface.
During the 19th century, people found out something important about Mars. In his findings, Giovanni Schiaparelli said there are canal-like structures on Mars. Could we really have built something like this? The idea of life on Mars got in people’s heads after some investigation.
When technology advanced, people started looking at Mars closer and closer Lowell thought there was intelligent life on Mars. People became more curious after he spoke about Mars.
It didn't happen until the middle of the 20th century that humans started trying to go to Mars. In 1957 the Soviet launched the first satellite called Sputnik which marked the beginning of the space race between the U.S and Russia The Apollo 11 mission was very historical for mankind as they landed on the moon.
Once the moon's dust has settled, we can see that Mars is there It was a great idea to send missions to Mars to learn more about its geology and atmosphere What has been done now will help with the next steps of exploration.
In the last few decades, many robots have gone to Mars to learn about its past and if it could support life They're studying the Martian environment and trying to find traces of microbes that might be there.
The findings from these missions make us want to go back to Mars Water ice was found on Mars which leads scientist to wonder if humans could survive there
Inspiring future generations to dream big is what Mars represents It's going to take a lot of teamwork to make this happen, but I'm excited to see it happen.
For example, SpaceX has a very ambitious plan to colonize Mars Elon Musk believes that one day we will go to Mars and make it our home.
NASA has the Artemis program that wants people to go back to the Moon and stay there for good The Artemis program wants to test out some cool technology and learn things that will help them on their trip to Mars someday.
It will soon be possible for humans to visit Mars because it is getting closer It is possible for humans to walk on Mars one day, a dream from long ago As we read
