It was like any other night as I walked to work, Luscious Dreams was close to my apartment. I thought about getting transportation but couldn’t justify spending money on something my legs could do perfectly. I had a habit of walking to work, even in stilettos. The crisp air whipping my hair around my face always settled me after a long day spent with my family. I actually looked forward to attending work. This was a job I’d had since I was eighteen. Seven years later, I’m still working at Luscious Dreams.

My sister wasn’t too fond of my choice of career. The rest of my family lacked the knowledge of what the club was about. They thought I was a bartender and made a substantial amount of money, so much so that I was doing well, and they didn’t have to nag me about changing careers. Besides, it wasn’t that I couldn’t get another job, I loved where I worked and could care less what people thought about my choices.

My thoughts clouded my mind as I continued to walk. I was unusually disconnected from the present as I thought about tonight’s events. The club was hosting a Halloween party, and I couldn’t wait. I loved Halloween, it was my favorite time of the year. I always looked forward to the best part, dressing up. People could be anything they set their minds to during this time of the year. Tonight, I chose to wear a ball gown, not just any, I wanted to play the part of Christine Daae from Phantom of the Opera, my absolute favorite play. Of course, having my own Phantom by my side would make the costume and party so much better, but I was okay dressing the part alone. I doubt anyone would recognize what character I looked like, but that was one of the best parts.

The club was like no other around the New Orleans area. There were places to enjoy your time, but Luscious Dreams was about making a person’s dreams or fantasies come to life and Halloween was the best time for playing out fantasies because you already dressed up for the holiday. Some people would describe the club as freakish, while others would describe it as a dungeon. It was basically a dungeon, as the building was underground and customers had to walk through a short tunnel before getting to the entrance. I thought it was a fantastic design. The place also fit the freakish description because we catered to a wide range of people. You wouldn’t believe the type of things people fantasized about. I never knew most kinks until I started the job. Now, I couldn’t get enough of the psychology behind specific kinks, for instance, I was fascinated in understanding what made a man want to play baby to his pretend mother. I have to admit it was a shocker when I witnessed that precise fantasy, but who was I to judge when I had secrets.

For me, some secrets weren’t meant to be revealed. I was adamant about staying low on the radar because I didn’t want random people to mess with me. Even if a person worked there, they were fair game as long as consent was involved. If permission wasn’t given, and things were pushed upon the worker or customer, then Torrence, the owner, would kick the person out. I felt safe knowing I wouldn’t be messed with without my consent. I liked Luscious Dreams more by knowing I was safe working there, especially with the weird fantasies being played out.

Torrence, now that was a man who made my blood boil. The instant I laid my eyes on him, I was smitten. I would say it was just a dumb crush because I was young and naïve, but with time, my crush had become an obsession. I yearned to see Torrence, run my fingers through his silver and brown hair, stare into his hazel eyes and bare my soul and body to him. I ached to have him look at me as if I were the only person he’d want to play out his fantasies with. But that never happened, and I fear it never would. Secrets, they can be hell, and my obsession with Torrence was one I needed to keep buried, never to be uncovered.

Pulling from my thoughts, I realized I stood right before the Luscious Dreams sign. I didn’t remember being so careless before when walking to work. The neighborhood wasn’t terrible, but a person should always be aware of their surroundings. You never know what could happen. I glanced up and noticed the ‘s’ on Dreams wasn’t lit, I wondered if anyone had reported the outage yet. Shrugging my shoulders, I figured someone would eventually, I wasn’t going to worry about trivial things like that. I got paid to be a server, not to note when a bulb went out on a sign. Call me what you will, I had a party to get to.

The outside of the club looked no different from any other day. Dark gray bricks lined the walls, with no windows to look out. The sign was the only thing indicating where I was as I stood in front of the massive front door. The fresh coat of red paint beckoned me, calling for me to grip the doorknob and swing open the door. Excitement instantly took hold because I knew what awaited, and I couldn’t wait. I did precisely that, without losing another second, I walked through the doorway. Nothing, not a pin drop, could be heard inside the reception area. I glanced left and then right but saw no one. I figured the employees were off getting the place ready for the night’s event. There didn’t need to be anyone around to assist, all a person had to do was slip their card into a machine, which would print out a name tag. The printed name would be the one I signed up with when I started my job. For clients, it would be the name they used when filling out the required paperwork to join the club. I found the process to be smooth-going and worthwhile. So far, no problems occurred with the system, which counted for something.

I grabbed my name tag and slipped it into the plastic holder strapped to my ankle. Most people had holders, while others chose not to wear their tags at all, because they felt like it would get in the way of their playtime. Since I was a worker, I had no other option but to wear the label, but I felt like having it on my ankle kept it out of the way as well. Once done, I stepped up to the blackout curtain separating the reception area from the main room. Slipping my hands through the slight crack in the curtain, I took a deep breath and exhaled. You never knew what you’d walk into when showing up for work. Some days were slow. I wouldn’t say boring, but the fantasies were basic. Other days, while things seemed to be out of hand they weren’t because that was the beauty of fantasies. As soon as I slipped the curtain to the side, the view caused my breath to hitch. The nearly four-thousand-square-foot club was decorated from top to bottom with loads of Halloween décor. I was in heaven, and the night was just getting started.

Standing far off in the shadows inside of Luscious Dreams, I mentally patted myself on the back, the décor was exquisite for the night ahead. Everyone did a fantastic job, I couldn’t have asked for a better decoration committee. When my employees voted to throw a Halloween party this year, I was against it immediately because most holidays just weren’t my thing. That was until Beatrice spoke up. The way she spoke about the holiday as if it were the greatest of all days caused me to like the damn day myself. I had to satisfy her even if it went against what I told myself.

Eighteen and fresh from high school, Beatrice strolled into Luscious Dreams, hoping against all hope we had an opening for her. I instantly thought to turn her away, but something in me halted my words. There was something about Beatrice that pulled to me, so here we were seven years later, still employed for me and me still wanting to know more about her. I knew I could make the first move and discover more, but I didn’t want to seem creepy. A man my age was too old for her. Hitting on forty-five had its ups and downs, and one of them was making sure I didn’t drag anyone else down with me. It was bad enough that I wasn’t happy about my age. Time flew by way too fast. To make matters worse, those were human years. My actual age would repulse any human who knew it, especially Beatrice.

The only good thing about my aging was that I didn’t look as old as I was. I had a few gray hairs, but that was just for show. I had a secret, and it was one I couldn’t come back from if anyone ever found out. Well, almost anyone because it was known soulmates were privy to the information. There were numerous people in this city exactly like me, but as far as I knew, no one actually believed us to be true. We were known as a myth, and our kind wanted to keep it that way. Unfortunately, it made it difficult to get to know someone or to have a relationship. I had to keep my distance, eventually, I knew the time would come when I’d have to leave Lucious Dreams for good before anyone could detect my immortality. Humans didn’t take kindly to things they couldn’t comprehend. The recent exchange of blood caused my heart to palpitate quickly. My heart wouldn’t beat without the fresh taste of blood. And there she was, Beatrice dressed for the night ahead, just the mere presence of Beatrice had me in shambles. Four hundred years old, and never had I experienced such pleasure as I did in her presence.

She was the most gorgeous human I’d ever set my sights on, and that’s saying a lot because I’ve been around so many women I couldn’t keep count. Her medium-brown hair was in loose curls down her back, with one side pinned up by a large red rose. Her cream-colored dress was Victorian style and puffed up around her waist and legs. The top of the dress stopped above her ample breasts, allowing the material to rest on her shoulders. Her neck, oh her porcelain long neck, seemed to beckon me. A vein pulsed, causing my incisors to lengthen along with my cock. Beatrice was a seductive siren, ready to entrap me, and I was a willing captive. I licked my teeth, thinking of how I ached to have her, if only I could. But she would accept me, then we’d have no issue. For seven years, I thirsted for the blood rushing through her veins and for her body to be willing prey, but I held my thirst at bay. I hoped I had the strength to fight my lust with everything in me. If not, so help me; we’d be doomed before I pounced on her.

I re-positioned my cock and willed it to listen because I needed to walk out of the shadows and greet the guests. More importantly, I wanted badly to greet Beatrice. I had difficulty waiting for my teeth to return to normal, but it was okay because I didn’t struggle to talk when they chose to lengthen. The good thing was that nobody paid attention to that sort of thing; they just thought I had eaten something or was chewing gum. Humans could be quite gullible when a vampire stood directly in front of them. Finally ready to mingle, I walked forward just as the disco light was turned on. Various colors of blues, greens, and yellows decorated my suit. It was rare when I wore anything else but a suit because I liked the tailored fit, and it made me feel empowered. I stopped in front of a few familiar faces, all of whom were dressed for the occasion. Some patrons wore Viking costumes, while others wore Cleopatra and the latest popular television series. I could care less what people wore, I was a vampire who didn’t dress as such, but lo and behold many humans liked to don a good vampire costume. Before I knew it, I stood right in front of Beatrice, and in all of my four-hundred years I was struck speechless.

Damned my consciousness and my thoughts. I knew it was wrong and selfish, but I would have Beatrice tonight, even if it meant leaving the club and all I’ve worked for behind. She would find out my true self during the exchange, there’d be no turning back.

Afantasy was finally coming true. Torrence stood near me as if he were about to speak. I fidgeted, unable to stand still because I didn’t know what to expect. It was rare to have the attention of the owner, the man of my dreams. But when a minute seemed to pass by, I realized he had nothing to say. Hurt and a little embarrassed is how I’d describe the non-attention from my boss and dream lover. Dream Lover would be the new name for Torrence because that’s what he was, a lover in my dreams. A fantasy that would never happen. God, forbid it did, because I’d have to quit and leave town. It wasn’t right to sleep with your boss. I didn’t know how anyone could do such a thing and pretend to be okay afterward. That was my mindset, but I knew numerous people who begged to differ.

I squared my shoulders and prepared to walk away, knowing I wasn’t truly wanted in Torrence’s presence. Why he stood there ready to speak when he clearly wasn’t going to was beyond me. As soon as I spun around to head in the opposite direction, a semi-cold hand lightly gripped my left shoulder.

    Please, don’t go.
