      Chapter 1: The Mysterious Discovery

      As Halloween drew near , the sleepy village of Willowbrook was hopping. The air was crisp and chilly, and the streets were lined with vibrant fall foliage. The air was filled with the aroma of pumpkin spice, and houses were decked out in frightening decorations. But Owen, Mia, and Leo, three best friends, were the ones who were most enthusiastic about Halloween.

      Owen was renowned for his irrational imagination and never-ending curiosity. He was the group's brains, with untidy brown hair that frequently fell down his nose. Mia was always up for an adventure, what with her flaming red hair and sly grin. Leo had a heart as enormous as his desire for candy. He was the tallest of the bunch and had a shock of blond hair.

      The buddies decided to investigate Owen's old Victorian home's attic one bright afternoon. Dusty old crates, cobwebs, and buried treasures littered the attic. Leo overturned a stack of books and revealed a beaten-up, leather-bound book as they dug through the crates. The title on the front was Mythical Wonders and Enchanted Realms.

      Opening the book out of curiosity, Owen discovered pages full of fascinating animals, old spells, and mystical settings. A folded piece of parchment accidentally fell to the ground as he turned the pages of the book. Mia took it up as her eyes grew wide with interest.

      What's that?  Looking over Mia's shoulder, Leo questioned.
