    Introduction

Quilters love their fabric, and when it comes to pre-cuts—stacks, rolls, and bundles of fabric coordinates, each piece cut to a specific measurement or shape—they can’t get enough.

No one seems to agree on whom to credit for first cutting Fat Quarters, arguably the first and most common type of pre-cut, but they’ve been around a pretty long time. Moda fabrics, however, can take credit for jumpstarting a pre-cut craze a quarter century ago. They introduced Moda Charm Packs® (5 squares) and invented the Jelly Roll® (2½ strips) copyrighting both names along with Layer Cakes® (10 squares), Dessert Rolls® (5 strips), and other cuts. There is even a National Sew a Jelly Roll Day celebrated every third Saturday
