My area of research was why different groups in society cannot understand each other. This was a direct result of a working class lad studying at university and finding that the two different ways of thinking could not be further apart. Recap end of Book Two.

It took two years to rebuild the damaged parts of Space City and complete the first parts of the new university devoted to inner and outer space. Edith found there was no need to compensate anyone for the supplies and toys taken by the army because it was pointed out by Malcolm that they were the de-facto owners of Space City. They did, however, arrange that all employees would continue to receive their monthly credits whilst the theme park was closed. In this time a new government was elected, and the government had run an election for a new World President. The opening of the University was to be Edith's last official act as Acting World President.

The idea of eleven layers of reality had been easy to introduce to the world because Tweedle had primed the conspiracy theorist say it only proved what they already knew. Helen and Tweedle had developed a system. Tweedle started a new series of holographs called 'Ancient Wisdoms' in the form of storytelling and these would instantly be believed even though they were not true. Would Tweedle lie? The world feasted on the old myths presented this way. It was made clear to Tweedle that they would not invent a time machine to go back into ancient times to give Sir Isaak Newton the answer to his puzzle he was working on, or any other ideas they might have about being the discovers of ancient knowledge. Tweedle developed ancient myths that claimed there were 'angelic realms' and 'levels of vibration' about levels of existence with a hint of the Ancient's religious practices. Ancient truths became whatever anyone wanted them to be to prove whatever they wanted to prove. The truth of the levels of existence was then be introduced to serious researchers who quickly found research into the hidden layers of the universe more fascinating than angelic realms could ever be. Tweedle became the hidden masters of feeding Helen's rediscovered ancient knowledge back into the world without them inventing it. With this new thirst for knowledge, it was easy for Edith to advance the need for a University of Inner and Outer Space to the world and have become more than accepted, it became a demand from the people of the world. Edith obliged. The Problem that worried Helen was that Tweedle came closer to normal with every passing day.

The world had long enjoyed the technology of the Ancients, but now they were beginning to understand how to understand it rather than just use it. One conspiracy story started by Tweedle at Edith’s insistence was that the demise of Ancients had come about because they had invented artificial intelligence and the machines had tried to take over the world. The machines had been destroyed but it had also destroyed the Ancients. A few wondering survivors had continued using the none-intelligent machines without knowing how they worked, and this had grown into the modern world. Helen wondered if this qualified as what the Ancients would have called a 'creation myth'. The story was very close to truth of the hidden revolution against the tyranny of Karnetta and the enemy being doppelgangers apart from the time the events occurred or didn't occur. Tweedle told the story so well that there was a total dread of artificial intelligence throughout the world.

The twin parts of the new university shared a unique style of playful architecture that had been dubbed ‘Post Monad’ that was derived for the architectural style of the Ancients called ‘Post Modern.’ The twin university had two sections that both complimented and opposed each other in a unique tension that translated to different but equal. The entry to both was between two square towers that were larger at the base that at the top, and these were. capped with pyramid roofs The towers changed colours regularly as they reached for the heavens. between the towers was a wide arch with the motto ‘Knowledge belongs to Everybody" curved along its length. Edith insisted that if everybody had access to all knowledge nobody would be able to use it to enslave. The path through the arch was a wide processional way lined with gardens and trees either side. The gardens had multiple shady nooks each containing a bronze statue of one of the ancients. The processional way ended with a large amphitheatre surrounded by greenery that doubled as a sunken garden designed to be the centre of university life. Wrapped around rear half of the garden was Library of the ancients. The wide public space between the library and sunken garden was covered by a walkway with classic Greek columns to match the style of the building. This was the centre piece of the university. The remainder of the university buildings were an eclectic collection of stylistic themes in any ancient form the architects could find, plus a few they made up. The buildings were scattered either side but set back from the processional spine. It was a complete architectural mess, but somehow it worked. Some architects had been clever to the extent that there was a base building with a changeable holograph skin. There were students who found this confusing, particularly when some architects would swap facades and buildings would seem to migrate around the campus.

The university was adjacent to Space City and was open, and accessible to the public at all times. The old cavern beneath the hoverboard track had been renovated for public display and on the opening day a large-scale display of Newton's solar system was the opening exhibit. Visited walked freely around the cavern accompanied by holographs of the ancients explaining the display and movement of the planets. Einstein was the favourite companion for visitors because he had the friendly favourite grandfather looks and manner that became the standard image of the Ancients. It was decided not to include Zwicky or Leibniz as tour guides.

Next to the cavern was the Superhero centre that was impossible to describe other than weird with an RKO tower on top. Malcolm had said to Tweedle build whatever you want and was uncertain if it had been a good idea to say that. The public loved it. Buck Rogers was renovated and took visitors for rides around Space City. Naturally the entry for the Buck Rogers ride was at the end of a long merchandising hall.

The Tweedle computing centre at the university had a sign at its entry that read Computers Yes, AI no. The MustB on public display was not the real MustB, but a look-alike that was programmed to be what the public expected with limited abilities and nothing in memory of the events of Space City. The real MustB resided in an underground room with limited, secure access. Edith was careful not to personalise MustB. To Tweedle MustB was never more than a machine.

The official opening took place in front of the library of the ancients. Edith walked ontoand Tweedle. The holograph team transmitted the ceremony to the world.

Edith began, This is my last event as World President before handing over to President elect Rump. After this event I will be retiring to enjoy a quiet life as an ordinary citizen.

The crowd may have believed her, but the others on the Podium Didn’t. Even Edith did not believe it.

I am here to officially open the twin Universities of Inner and Outer Space. I would like to officially confirm and welcome the Chancellor of Inner Space, Helen Tyndale, and the Chancellor for Space University, Michael Tyndale. To move forward from the knowledge of the Ancients we need to explore Inner and outer space together. They are different, but one.

After a long pause while the clapping subsided Edith continued.

Both inner and outer space need the highest level of technical support. The two ladies affectionately known as Tweedle are heading the common computer science services as well as being computer education directors. Malcolm James is heading computer hardware research, development, and services, and will be working closely with Tweedle as well as supporting the needs of the twin university."

There was a pause before Edith continued. You all know of the work of Helen, Michael and Malcolm, and nobody could have missed Tweedle, so it is fitting that they should be the first leaders of the new university.

"The magnificent library is dedicated to the army of volunteers working to catalogue and translate all the books that it has been possible to save. The library catalogue is contained in the largest computer to date, built by Tweedle and Malcolm, called MustB and is accessible to the public. If MustB starts talking to you it is just Tweedle being Tweedle.

The crowd laughed. Tweedle were known to be weird, but their weirdness had been surpassed by the understanding of their genius. Were all geniuses weird? The world thought so. When Tweedle lectured about computers everybody listened and somehow their weirdness made them understandable.

I will stop here so that you can enjoy the many displays arranged by Tweedle and Malcolm. I really do recommend you all see the Newton display in the cavern before you leave. The staff and lecturers from the twin university will answer any questions you might have in any area of the university. Thank you all for being here and I wish you all many years enjoying Space City and the twin universities.

After the presentation was over Helen and Michael were joined by Little Edith and Peter.

I suppose now you want to join Tweedle and play with superheroes. said Michael.

No. said Little Edith. We want to go to the hoverboard park with you and mum.

Helen took Little Edith to one side and quietly said,

The boy with the beautiful blue eyes. Tip him off his board.

After a short pause she added, It worked with your father.

    1. Oshun

I tried that. Replied Little Edith. No matter what I try he gets away.

    Try Harder, said Helen.

That’s Tom. Said Peter, who always listens in. He’s Margret’s brother.

Is Margret your friend you met in the Superhero Centre? asked Helen.

Michael and Edith had wandered other to join the conversation.

Yes, replied Peter, the girl I gave a Mojo to when we were captives of the doppelgangers and, Peter continued, Little Edith gave a Mojo to Thomas at the same time.

So why won’t he talk to her now? asked Helen.

Because he’s scared of her, and of you and dad.

    Why? said a puzzled Helen.

Because said Peter, his dad was one of your section leaders in the army, and his mother was one of dad’s section leaders, before continuing with You and dad are gods to them and Mum, you are the daughter of the Edith James their Commander in Chief.

Edith had been listening and understanding the pattern. It was something that she had come across many times. She had special talents and had been successful at inspiring confidence in her troops. Helen knew that without being conceited about it. and she had twice led her troops to success when they had been the immortal Army. It had always been a problem for Edith. She longed to be ordinary and accepted just for who she was, but who she was had special talents so how could she be ordinary? Now she had passed the perception of being special onto Little Edith. Now Thomas was scared of Little Edith because she was the daughter of Helen and the granddaughter of the armies Commander in Chief, Edith James.

Edith said, Tom’s the son and Margret the daughter of Richard and Cassandra Madison.

    You know them? asked Helen,

momently forgetting her mother knew every ex-immortal. Edith remembered all the ex-immortal soldiers because to her they were her children.

Edith remembered how, at the celebration dinner and fancy-dress ball they had been Cinderella and her prince, and how she had jokingly told them they had to be home by midnight. They seemed to have known each other before. Both had been excellent soldiers but intuitively she had separated them at training because they were constantly occupied with each other rather than the training.

Richard is an excellent chemist and lovely person, and he was a good section leader so why would his son be scared of me? Asked Helen.

And why would Cassie be scared of me? Asked Michael. I have never pulled rank on her, and we always discussed and decided together.

You may think you discussed and decided together,' replied Edith, but she has the ability of following your lead without you knowing it. You are the goddess Helen and the legendary Soldier One who led them into battle against Karnetta. Not once, but twice".

That’s ridiculous Said Michael, They were just as immortal as we were. If we were gods, so were they. Now we are as mortal as they are.

Humans are ridiculous. Malcolm butted in. which is why I like my machines. My machines do what they are supposed to do, and nothing more.

Unless they are doppelgangers, suggested Peter.

You had to mention that didn't you, said Malcolm beneath his breath.

Little Edith had been listening quietly to the discussion until she said quietly,

Maybe Tom just doesn’t like me.

Maybe that is why he calls you Oshun, chided Peter.

Helen laughed. He knows his mythology.

    Why? asked Michael.

Oshun, goddess of water, love and fertility, in the old region known as Nigeria. Answered Helen.

Michael went very quiet and contemplative. Helen placed her hand on his arm and gently said,

Your little girl has been growing up whilst you weren’t looking.

It happens. Said Malcolm looking at Helen. One day she was sitting on my knee telling me stories, the next she brings home Soldier One.

But Thomas is two years older than Little Edith, protested Michael.

Michael, chided Helen, when I met you, I was twenty-five. You were two hundred and ten. So don’t complain about two years. Helen continued Your little girl will soon be a woman so get used to it.

What do you mean soon? rebuffed Little Edith.

You’re not there yet, even if you think you are. Laughed Helen.

It could be worse. Said a quiet Michael. I married my Greek goddess and our daughter get the best of both worlds and is a Nigerian goddess.

I don’t want to be a goddess. Interrupted Little Edith, I want to be ordinary so Tom can like me.

You will grow to enjoy being a goddess, insisted Helen quietly. It is so useful when you need it.

Helen became quiet. She was surprised how easily her jealously of a woman who had died so long ago had returned. She had forgotten it was even there. Michael’s first wife had been Jane, a beautiful woman of colour who had been elevated to become ‘Lady Jane’, the goddess of the media, before being sacrificed for the pleasure of Karnetta, the One True Living God. Helen had seen holographs of Jane’s wedding to Michael that had taken place all those years before. Jane had been truly beautiful and looking at her daughter saw the same image of beauty emerging. Did his daughter remind Michael of Jane? Did he still miss Jane? Helen instantly dismissed those thoughts, but remained disturbed that they could arise so easily.

What about you and Margret? Asked Edith. Is Margret scared of your parents?

    That is different. Said Peter.

    "Why? Asked Helen.

We were just children then, and things like that didn’t matter then. We were just playing.

And now you are not children? asked Michael, almost afraid of the of the answer he would get.

But Michael did not get an answer. Peter went very quiet and withdrew slightly from the group. He and Margret had met as children and become close friends, but now they were becoming best friends in a different, confusing, way. Michael went to ask again but Helen motioned to him not to. Michael became thoughtful or was that reflective. He was still physically a young man and now he had a daughter on the verge of being a woman and a son not yet a man, but no longer a child. The group was quiet for a while because it was not just the problem of a boy who liked Little Edith being afraid to talk to her, but because he was scared of her family. They all knew many people, and enjoyed their company, but there was always the problem that anyone who knew them as part of the immortal Army always treated them with awe, and those who had not been part of the army could never be close. The army set all of the army apart because nobody outside of it would ever know it had once existed.

The Gods on Mount Olympus looked down sadly and agreed. Gods walking amongst the humans was a lonely existence.

After a while to was decided that they would all go the hoverboard park. This had become the place to go to forget the world for a while and just play. There were beautiful gardens to most of the infield and Edith and Malcolm would often walk amongst the gardens and enjoy the lake. When they arrived Richard and Cassandra Madison with Thomas and Margret were sitting in the observation deck overlooking a
