Whether you are listening to the podcast, or sitting in the audience of a live performance, you have welcomed two beings into your world. The Pale Lady and The Dark Gentleman, may seem like fun, creepy, entertaining hosts; but underneath all that is something more, something ancient, and something haunting. You may just be a witness to what the future has in store for Dark Pony Radio; For the Pale Lady and Dark Gentleman, you are more than just a witness, you are part of an ancient cyclical ritual.
The world creates a place for those
Who understand the entrances and exits.
Everyone in the world that has arose
Looks around and begins to wreck it.
It’s up to the two who have the power
To destroy and create, death and rebirth.
Above all they sit in their ivory tower;
Time ebb and flows to give them their worth
Emotion drives them, logic denies them.
The world below and above judges
As creation continues to move through this phlegm
Two as one, move toward the end, not so much as to budge.
Standing on the precipice of oblivion;
The end may be nigh through delirium.
-The Dark Gentleman

SFX: LIGHT BULB HUM.
SFX: door open and close
MOORE: Good evening. My name is Terrance I’m from the Arkham Advertiser, per your request, Dr. Dyer.
DYER: The Elder Pharos lights the way.
MOORE: Right, umm, Dr Dyer You reached out to the Advertiser to document your story.
DYER: The edge of the plateau. Darkness below. And in that Darkness, crawling horror.
MOORE: Dr. Dyer? Are you ok?
DYER: It’s not a story
.
MOORE: I didn’t mean story
, I meant experience. I want to hear what you have to say. I feel this is something to define our future. Are you ok to begin?
DYER: Yes, of course I am.
MOORE: My records say that you worked for Miskatonic University.
DYER: I was the Professor of Geology, until they asked me to leave the University upon my return.
MOORE: Ah, I see. Now, you didn’t mention why you wanted someone from Arkham Advertiser to record your experience. At first they weren’t going to send anyone, it’s been over three years since you’ve returned from Antartica, no offense you are old news. It wasn't until I saw your name come across my desk that they were willing to hear from you.
DYER: This is my last attempt to prevent further exploration and study of Antarctica. My earlier attempts, I fear, have been in vain. They have greenlit a new expedition, the Starkweather-Moore Party, and they refuse to listen to my warnings. I’m afraid they will melt and bore till they bring up that which we know may end the world.
MOORE: The end of the world? (laughs) The rumors of your madness are true then.
DYER: Rumors? They are not rumors. What was reported and sent back is but a small portion of what actually happened.
MOORE: Are you saying you misreported your findings?
DYER: Only to the general public. I have no choice but to reveal the truth now.
MOORE: Very well,Let’s start from the beginning. Tell me who was part of the expedition.
DYER: You must understand, this was not a small undertaking; there may have only been four of us from the University leading the way, but we had backing from outside sources, as well. Pabodie joined our expedition because of her expertise and new drilling technology that she, herself created for ease of digging through the ice tundra with accuracy and speed. This would allow us to hit our deadlines. Professor Lake came to us from the Biology Department at Miskatonic, an eccentric human to say the least, but probably the most excitable out of the group. Atwood, was our Physics expert, not to mention that they were also a meteorologist. Beyond them, the expedition consisted of 7 grad students, 9 skilled mechanics. We traveled with two ex-whaler ships, called the Arkham, and Miskatonic. We also had several sledges, dogs, machines, camp materials, and parts for assembling 5 planes. We were more than prepared for the conditions of the expedition.
MOORE: It really wasn’t a small operation. The university didn’t hold back.
DYER: I should also make mention of Danforth, who was with me on the expedition.
MOORE: Danforth? I wanted to meet with him as well. The asylum wouldn’t let me without certain approval. The doctors, however, tell me that exposure and isolation drove him to madness.
DYER: The doctors are wrong, they don’t know. They think they know, but they don’t know what is out there, what is under us. The Elder Pharos lights the way.
MOORE: Dr. Dyer?
DYER: The edge of the plateau.
MOORE: DR. DYER!!
DYER. (pause, then gaining control) Call me, Will.
MOORE: Very well, Will. Are you ok to continue?
DYER: Yes of course.
MOORE: Were there any problems getting to basecamp?
DYER: Surprisingly, no. We couldn’t have asked for better travel. We loaded our ships at Boston Harbor. We departed on Sept. 2nd, 1930, in hopes to be on the continent for the Antarctic Summer. From there we traveled through the Panama Canal, stopped in Samoa and Hobert, and had our final stop, and supply refill in Tasmania. On Oct. 20th at 62 degrees South Latitude we broke the Antarctic Circle, and on the 26th we saw land. The scene reminded me of the strange and disturbing paintings of Nicholas Roerich, and descriptions of the evilly fabled plateau of Leng that occur in the dreaded Necronomicon from Abdul Alhazard. Looking back, I wish I had brought a copy with me. Danforth, who was well versed in Poe, and all things bizarre, compared it to Arthur Gordon Pym on the shores. Once we were able, we set up basecamp and unloaded everything, and quickly went to our first dig site at the base of Mt. Erebus. We went to work immediately and got several unexpected samples. Lake was interested in one particular fossil. I thought it was normal, but something kept pushing Lake.
MOORE: Was there something else beyond the fossil driving Lake?
DYER: At the time, I didn’t think so. Looking back on it, yes of course. Lake thought something was odd about the samples and the striations on the rock. And wanted to explore more to the west. They took Atwood, a couple planes, and some other assistants with them. I was never really against this mini adventure, until Katabatic winds and a storm started up, for safety I wanted them back. Lake refused and continued on. After 1.5 hours of radio silence we got this report.
SFX: radio turns on. Voice over the radio
LAKE: 10:05pm On the wing. After snowstorm, have spied mountain range higher than anything I’ve ever seen. May equal Himalayas. Probable Latitude 76 Degrees 15*, Longitude 113 degrees 10’ East. Reaches as far as the eye can see to the right and left. Suspicion of two smoking cones. All peaks black and bare of snow. Gale blowing off them impedes navigation.
SFX: radio off
DYER: After that transmission we all had that wave of adventurous excitement. We may have just discovered a new range of titanic mountains, a mere 700 miles away. Half an hour later Lake called us again.
SFX: radio turns on
LAKE: Moulton’s plane forced down on plateau of foothills, nobody hurt and perhaps can repair. Mountains surpass anything in imagination. Am going up scouting in Carroll’s plane, with all weight out. Cannot imagine anything like this. Highest peaks must go over 35,000 feet. Everest out of the running. Atwood to work out height with theodolite, while Carroll and I go up. Probably wrong about cones, for formations look stratified. Possibly pre-cambrian slate with other strata mixed in. Skyline effects, whole thing marvelous in red-goldlight of low sun, like land of mystery in a dream or gateway to forbidden world of untold wonder. Wish you were here to study.
SFX: Radio turns off
DYER: Between camp and the ships, everyone was on the edge of the seat awaiting to see or rather hear what was next. And at 11pm we got another message.
SFX radio turns on
LAKE: Up with Carroll over highest foothills. Don’t dare try really tall peaks in present weather. Main summits do exceed Himalayas, and are very odd. Was wrong about volcanism. Goes farther than we can see in either direction. Swept clear of snow above about 21,000 feet. Odd formations of slopes of highest mountains. Great low square blocks with exactly vertical sides, rectangular lines of low vertical ramparts, like old castles clinging to steep mountains in Roerich’s paintings. Most edges crumbled and rounded off as if exposed to storms and climate changes for millions of years. Close flying shows many cave mouths. Think I saw a rampart squarely on top of one peak. Height seems about 30,000 to 35,000 feet. Am up at 21,500 myself, gnawing cold. No flying danger so far.
SFX: Radio turns off
DYER: Every half hour Lake continued the commentary, and expressed interest in climbing. I wanted to join them as soon as I could send a plane. We decided to make a new sub camp at Lake’s location.
MOORE: With the creation of the new subcamp, they must have found something spectacular.
DYER: It was Spectacular, the drill team discovered a cave. The ground gave way to this opening. We quickly discovered this crevice held many unique fossils, dating back to Mezsozoic, Cretaceous eras. There was too much to even catalog. Everyone rushed over to this wonder, as Lake wrote out notes for Moulton to relay back to base camp and the ships.
SFX: radio on
MOULTON: Have found a peculiar soapstone about six inches and a half inch thick. Curious smoothness and regularity. Shaped like a 5 pointed star pattern, with tips broken off and signs of other cleavage at inward angles. Carroll thinks he can make out additional markings, groups of tiny dots in regular patterns. Dogs are growing uneasy as we work. 10:15pm important discovery. Monstrous barrel-shaped fossil of wholly unknown nature. Tissue evidently preserved by the mineral salts. Tough as leather. This reminds one of certain monsters, the fabled Elder Things, in the Necronomicon. Must dissect when we get back to camp. Looking for more specimens. Having trouble with dogs, they can’t endure the new find, will keep them at a safe distance.
SFX: quick static
LAKE: 11:30 pm Attention, Matter of Highest Importance, Arkham must relay to Kingsport Head Station at once.Strange Barrel creature is the Archaean thing that left prints in rocks.Discovered a cluster of 13 more at underground point. Of organic specimens 8 apparently perfect with all appendages. Have brought all to the surface. Objects are 8 feet long, 6 foot, ridged barrel torso. Dark gray, flexible, and infinitely tough. 7 foot membranous wings of same color folded, spread wings have serrated edge. Around the equator of the barrel, stave like ridges of 5 systems of gray flexible arms or tentacles folded to torso, but expansible to over 3 feet. Like arms of primitive crinoid. Single stalks, branch off into 5 substalks , each of which branches into small tendrils, give each stalk 25 tentacles. At the top of torso, strafish-shaped head, covered with 3 inch wiry cilia of various prismatic colors. At the bottom of the torso more starfish-shaped projections, as well as 4 foot arms with paddles undoubtedly used for motion of some sort. Students keep comparing to Elder Things, and referencing folklore of Cthulhu Cult, etc. I must dissect one of these before I get some rest. Wish I had a real laboratory here.
SFX radio turns off.
DYER: I made sure the transmissions were sent of to the Arkham. I needed to get out to Lake’s camp as soon as possible. But Lake, told us to hold due to katabatic winds that would have made our travel to them dangerous. Lake had reported, they were able to retrieve 8 entact specimens and get them to camp. They got the dogs into a safe corral away from the specimens, and left all but one of them spread out on the hard snow.
MOORE: I understand dissection is always a meticulous event in the best of conditions. Was Lake able to achieve or gather anymore information?
DYER: Lake had a hard time cutting into any specimen without damaging it further. He decided to keep it in the heated tent, which allowed some thawing to begin. With this thaw was a pungent offensive odor, and blood that was a thick, dark green fluid. The dogs had gotten worse, started savagely barking, and restless. Eventually Lake got through the initial dissection,
But it was just as confusing
