-The Beginning

The city of Luminara was not known for its starry nights. In fact, for as long as anyone could remember, a thick layer of smog had shielded the city from the glimmers of the cosmos. Yet, tonight was different. A meteor shower painted streaks of golden fire across the sky, each one seeming to crash somewhere within the city limits. The streets buzzed with anxiety, with some claiming it was the end of the world while others believed they were celestial gifts.

Amara Kane, a 17-year-old astronomy enthusiast, stood on her apartment's rooftop, eyes fixed on the streaking lights. Beside her, her younger brother, Jace, clung to the telescope, the excitement evident in his wide eyes.

Did you see that one, Amara? Jace asked, pointing to a particularly bright meteor that seemed to land not too far from their building.

Before she could respond, a burst of light temporarily blinded her. When her vision cleared, a crystal, no bigger than her palm, lay smoking on the rooftop tiles. It pulsed with an inner light that seemed otherworldly.

Whoa! A space rock! Jace exclaimed, rushing towards it.

Amara hesitated. Wait, Jace! It might be dangerous.

Ignoring her, Jace picked it up. The crystal absorbed the light around it, and then, in a burst, sent it rushing back out, causing Jace to drop it. As the light touched Amara, a searing pain shot through her. Her vision blurred and she could hear Jace's distant voice calling out to her.

When Amara came to, she found herself hovering a few inches above the ground. Shocked, she landed clumsily, immediately checking on Jace. He was unharmed but looked at her with wide-eyed amazement.

Amara... you were flying!

She shook her head, disbelieving. That's... that's impossible.

Picking up the crystal gingerly, she felt an undeniable connection to it. It was as if the meteor had chosen
