About this ebook

Scott sat in his apartment, staring blankly at the wall in front of him. He had lost everything that had once given his life meaning: his athletic career, his dreams of going pro, and most importantly, the life he had always envisioned for himself.

The accident that had taken his leg had shattered not only his body but also his spirit. He had struggled to come to terms with his new reality, and the weight of his unfulfilled potential had left him feeling stuck and dejected. Despite his prosthetic leg, which allowed him to function in his daily life, he knew that he would never be able to reclaim his place on the field. The thought of never being able to run or play again was a constant reminder of everything he had lost.

Scott's girlfriend had been his rock through it all, supporting him through his recovery and encouraging him to keep fighting. But as the months passed by, the constant pain and sense of isolation made Scott feel as if he wasn't good enough for her anymore; he felt that he couldn't burden her with his struggles any longer.

As he sat alone in his apartment, Scott knew that he couldn't stay trapped in his grief forever. He needed to do something, anything, to break free from the chains that bound him to his past and find a new sense of purpose in life.

He had tried therapy, medication, and even meditation, but nothing seemed to ease the constant ache in his heart. Scott knew that he needed a change, something drastic that would force him out of his comfort zone and onto a new path.

Despite the uncertainty that lay ahead, Scott felt a glimmer of hope for the first time in months. Maybe, just maybe, there was a way for him to move forward and find happiness in a new chapter of his life.

    Chapter 1 - New Beginnings

Scott stood in the middle of his bedroom, surveying the chaos around him. Clothes were strewn across the floor, books piled haphazardly on the bed, and his guitar leaned against the wall, its strings still humming from the last notes he had played. He was going through his belongings and deciding which ones to keep and which ones to leave behind. But the thing he was ignoring the most was the remnants of his true passion - basketball.

The walls of his room were adorned with posters of his favorite team, and there was a basketball hoop hanging right across his bed. When Scott first came back home after his accident, his rage caused him to try and pull the hoop off the wall. However, he had momentarily forgotten that his amputated leg wouldn't allow him to reach that height. That was the first time the realization of his new limitations hit him, and he broke down crying in the middle of the room. By the time he was able to walk with the help of a stick, he realized he could now reach the hoop and remove it if he wanted to. But a part of him was too gutted to even go near it. And so, Scott left it hanging there while always avoiding looking at it, as if pretending it wasn't there. His rage, however, caused him to throw his first basketball away - the one his father had got him when he was seven, and Scott had managed to keep it safe for almost two decades. And so, the basketball hoop was now nothing more than a reminder of what could have been.

Despite how passionate he was about the game, Scott's life didn't revolve around basketball. In fact, he had a lot of other hobbies. His shelves were filled with books that he had read and re-read countless times, the guitar that he had bought to impress a girl he had a crush on in 11th grade, the notebooks he used to write stories in when he was a little kid, the collection of movies he grew up watching, among other things. The room was a reflection of the person he had been in this town - athletic, creative, curious, and passionate.

People around him always looked up to him, wondering how he could manage to be so good at so many things. But for Scott, it wasn't a big deal; it felt like it all came naturally.

But with that one accident, everything changed. It's like his whole life fell apart the moment he lost his leg.

He took a deep breath and looked out the window, taking in the familiar sights of his hometown. The tree-lined streets, the brick buildings, the town square with its clock tower - it all felt so small and familiar. But he knew that it was time to move on, to leave behind the comfort and security of his childhood home and explore what lay beyond.

He was broken out of his trance as his phone started ringing. It was his girlfriend, Penny.

Scott reached for the phone but hesitated for a moment. He knew he should answer, but he almost felt ashamed of himself. He knew he wasn't the guy Penny had fallen in love with anymore, and he felt that it was unfair that she had to suffer
