    A long time ago, a man named Egeon lived in the city of Syracuse in Sicily. Egeon was a merchant who sailed all around the Mediterranean selling things. The one place he was sure to avoid was Ephesus, as Syracuse and Ephesus were at war.

    Egeon loved his wife Emilia very much, and she often came with him on his trips, even after she became pregnant. While they were away, Emilia gave birth to twin boys at the inn where they were staying.

    Why, I cannot tell one from the other! Egeon cried.

    Two identical, perfect babies, Emilia agreed, cuddling them close.

    Next door, another lady had also just given birth to identical twin boys. She and her husband were so poor, they didn’t know how they would manage to feed two babies when they could barely feed themselves. The mother burst out crying as she hugged her babies.
