    Entangled - Ireland Lorelei

    Prologue

    Chapter Separator

She couldn’t believe that it was over, much less that he had a one-night stand with her one of her friends. She would never forget that phone call. The one where her old high school friend Allison Hines called to tell her that she had slept with her boyfriend Jamie Westbrook a few months ago and that she was pregnant.

Christie was beside herself. She didn’t give him an opportunity to explain. She just cut all communication. She blocked him from all of her social media accounts, his phone calls, text messages, and emails. She was devastated. He was the one she wanted to spend the rest of her life with. The one that completed her. It should have been them that had it all, the marriage, the kids, and the white picket-fenced house for the rest of their lives. But here she was heartbroken, devastated, and trying to figure out how to start a life without him.

As she looked back on their relationship, the one thing that should have been a red flag was the whole three years they had been together. He had never actually said the words, I love you. She had always been open about her feelings for him. But because his actions seemed to always be on the same page as hers, she never pushed or questioned how he felt. Maybe she should have. She could see now that there were things that she should have paid closer attention to and asked about. If she had, maybe she wouldn’t have been able to keep her own emotions in check and more on the same page as his. Maybe then this wouldn’t hurt so much.

However, him never saying the words didn’t change how she felt. She spent the last two years in limbo. Nothing she tried to do to get over him worked. She dated a couple of guys, but they just weren’t him. They didn’t make her feel the way that he did. She would unblock him and block him again before he even noticed. She couldn’t bring herself to see if he was happy with Allison and their child.

Then one summer night she unblocked him from one of the social media sites and five hours later, she got a direct message with his number to call him. His best friend had come to Miami, and they had spent a weekend catching up. The one thing Darrell said to her that made her unblock Jamie was that nothing was what she thought it was and that she needed to reach out, even if it was for the closure she needed to move on.

She was terrified of how the conversation was going to go if he even wanted to talk to her. Darrell made it seem like Jamie did, but would this just end up in more heartbreak for her if he didn’t? Could she put herself through that again? But she had decided that she needed closer. She needed to know where she had gone wrong and if he was happy so that she could move on. She was tired of living in the past hurt. She wanted happiness and love. She deserved it. She still wanted a husband, kids, and the white picket fence.

It was this phone call that changed everything. It was never what she expected. Could she finally be happy? Better yet, could they finally be happy and have the fairy tale ending that she had always dreamed of? Can they finally make it work? And
