Japanese Children's Games - kevin tembouret
Preface
Welcome to this illustrated book on Japanese children's games! You will discover a multitude of entertainments that are played as much in Japanese schools as in city parks.
This book is for all children who want to discover and learn new ways to have fun. But also for parents and other adults! The games I propose are both entertaining and educational, as they encourage players to develop their thinking, coordination and team spirit.
In Japan, children have long had many games that showcase their imagination and creativity. In most of them, each participant has to show physical or mental skills to win the game.
The games presented in this book are varied, ranging from those to be played in pairs to those for groups of more than thirty participants. Their rules are explained as simply as possible and accompanied by childlike illustrations to pique interest, or to get the imagination going: Is it a circle on the ground? No, it's actually an island!
Most of the games in this book feature one or more demons trying to win the game against other children in a group. Demons, also called Oni throughout the book, are mystical creatures (yokai). They add a touch of Japanese culture to the various games offered.
Whether you are a child or an adult, this illustrated book on Japanese children's games will introduce you to Japan in a new light, while having fun.
