Winston Churchill est né en 1874 à Woodstock, dans l'Oxfordshire, en Angleterre. Il est issu d'une famille de la noblesse britannique et a fait ses études à l'Académie royale militaire de Sandhurst. Il a ensuite travaillé comme journaliste et écrivain avant de se lancer en politique.
Churchill a été élu pour la première fois au Parlement britannique en 1900 et a occupé différents postes au sein du gouvernement britannique tout au long de sa carrière politique.
Il est devenu Premier ministre pour la première fois en 1940, en pleine Seconde Guerre mondiale, et a dirigé le pays jusqu'à la fin de la guerre en 1945. Il a de nouveau été Premier ministre de 1951 à 1955.
Churchill est connu pour ses talents d'orateur et ses citations célèbres, notamment sa phrase Nous ne capitulerons jamais
