Questions Every Christian Should Ask Themselves - EMMANUELLE BRITT H.

    INTRODUCTION

As human beings, we are all on a journey of self-discovery and personal growth. One of the most powerful tools we have in this journey is the practice of self-reflection. By taking the time to reflect on our thoughts, feelings, and actions, we can gain a deeper understanding of ourselves and the world around us. I have found that reflecting on the fundamental principles of ethical behavior and cultivating the virtues and gifts of the Holy Spirit has helped me to live a life of purpose and meaning.

However, I am not a theologian nor an expert in the field of Christian theology. Instead, I am simply a fellow Christian who has found value in the practice of self-reflection and would like to share that with others. It is my hope that this book will serve as a guide for those seeking to deepen their spiritual practice and live a life of virtue and moral excellence.

Within these pages, you will find a collection of self-reflection questions designed to help you explore the Ten Commandments, the Beatitudes, the Cardinal Virtues, the Seven Deadly Sins, the Theological Virtues, and Unclassified Virtues. In addition, there is a section on the Gifts of the Holy Spirit, which are believed to be given by God to believers to help them live a life of faith.

These self-reflection questions are not meant to be a definitive or prescriptive list of answers, but rather a starting point for deeper reflection and contemplation. By engaging with these questions and reflecting on your own experiences, you will be able to develop a greater understanding of yourself and your relationship with God.

I invite you to approach this book with an open heart and mind, ready to engage with the questions and explore the depths of your own soul. May these self-reflection questions serve as a guide on your spiritual journey, and may they help you develop a deeper sense of connection with yourself, others, and God.

    INDEX

The 10 Commandments are a set of moral laws given by God to Moses in the Old Testament. They are fundamental principles of ethical behavior for Christians.

The Beatitudes are a set of teachings given by Jesus Christ during his Sermon on the Mount. They offer guidance for living a life of virtue and holiness, and they describe the characteristics and blessings of those who follow Jesus.

Cardinal virtues are four key virtues identified by Christian thinkers in the Middle Ages as essential for a good and moral life.

Theological virtues are three virtues identified by Christian tradition as essential for a life of faith.

The Seven Deadly Sins are a list of vices that have been recognized by Christian tradition since the early Middle Ages.

Unclassified virtues are other virtues that are not included in the categories above but are still recognized as important for living a virtuous life.

The Gifts of the Holy Spirit are a set of spiritual qualities or abilities that are believed to be given by God to believers.

    TEN COMMANDMENTS

The Ten Commandments are a set of ethical and religious guidelines that are central to the Christian faith. These commandments are said to have been given to Moses by God on Mount Sinai, as recorded in the Christian Old Testament.

The Ten Commandments provide a moral framework for Christians to follow in their daily lives, and they address a wide range of issues such as faith, respect for authority, relationships, and morality. These commandments are considered to be divine laws that are meant to guide individuals in their relationships with God and with one another.

The first four commandments focus on the relationship between humans and God, emphasising the importance of worshipping only one God, honouring his name, and observing the Sabbath. The remaining six commandments deal with interpersonal relationships, including honouring parents, not stealing, not committing adultery, not bearing false witness, and not coveting what belongs to others.

The Ten Commandments have had a profound impact on Western civilization, shaping the moral and ethical values of societies for thousands of years. They have been the subject of much debate and interpretation and have been adapted and expanded upon by various Christian denominations.

"YOU SHALL HAVE NO OTHER GODS BEFORE ME" establishes the fundamental requirement of monotheism and the exclusive worship of the one true God. It emphasises that God is the only one who is worthy of our worship and devotion and that we must not place any other gods or idols before Him. This commandment is an affirmation of God's sovereignty and a call to reject all false gods and idols that would compete for our allegiance. It invites us to place God at the centre of our lives, to honour Him in all that we do, and to trust in His power and goodness.

    ––––––––

Have I taken for granted the blessings and gifts God has given me, failing to recognise His sovereignty in my life?

    ––––––––

Have I ignored or disregarded God's commandments and instructions?

    ––––––––

Have I failed to recognise God's presence and work in my life, attributing my success and achievements solely to my own efforts?

    ––––––––

Have I used God's name flippantly or inappropriately, without reverence or respect?

    ––––––––

Have I neglected to praise and worship God, taking His love and mercy for granted?

    ––––––––

Have I made decisions based solely on personal gain or desire rather than seeking God's guidance and direction?

    ––––––––

Have I allowed fear or doubt to overshadow my faith and trust in God?

    ––––––––

Have I allowed other people or things to interfere with my relationship with God?

    ––––––––

Have I failed to acknowledge the interconnectedness of all things and my place in God's larger plan?

    ––––––––

Have I been judgmental of others who do not believe in God or have different beliefs?

    ––––––––

Have I placed my own understanding and wisdom above God's infinite wisdom and knowledge?

YOU SHALL NOT MAKE FOR YOURSELF A CARVED IMAGE reinforces the exclusive worship of the one true God and emphasises the spiritual nature of worship rather than any physical representation of God. It reminds us that God is infinite and cannot be confined to any physical form or representation. The commandment also highlights the danger of idolatry, as the worship of false gods can lead to spiritual deception and moral corruption. Instead, it calls us to direct our worship and devotion towards the true God and to cultivate a deep and personal relationship with Him, based on faith, prayer, and obedience to His will.

    ––––––––

Have I ever put more trust in an object or symbol than in God Himself?

    ––––––––

Have I ever made an idol out of a relationship, career, or material possessions?

    ––––––––

Have I ever valued my reputation or image more than my relationship with God?

    ––––––––

Have I ever been more concerned with what people think about me than what God thinks about me?

    ––––––––

Have I ever used spirituality or religious practises as a way to gain social status or approval from others?

    ––––––––

Have I ever been more attached to a religious ritual or practise than to the true God it represents?

    ––––––––

Have I ever used religion as a way to control or manipulate others?

    ––––––––

Have I ever allowed a religious leader or community to
