Katnippewla - C. M. Katz
CHAPTER ONE
THE CAT SHIP, Cat Scratch-Fever, flew further away from its home planet of Katnippewla. Captain Luke Sky Whiskers and Lieutenant Van Mouser, along with the Katnippewlan crew, watched as their home struggled to keep its form.
The Katnippewlans held their posts and their breaths as the planet’s slanted green eyes turned brown and round, and a sloppy, drooling tongue appeared. Hissing, growling, and mutters erupted when Captain Luke Sky Whiskers purr-claimed, Well, the fur-minable Doggelganger from the Dog Side has gained control of the planet’s purr-fect shape shifter memory sensors.
He licked his paw and groomed his white whiskers in a calming gesture that was anything but that. He didn't want to worry the clan further with his own fears. As Captain Luke Sky Whiskers continued to watch his home planet transform into a dog gone catastrophe, he saw that even the seven satellites were transforming into dog toys, treats, and fire hydrants.
Disgusted with the view, he padded over to the claw-ver Lieutenant Van Mouser and watched as his soundless, quick grey paws flew over the control board making the Cat Scratch- Fever vessel slink away from their home and into un-fur-miliar territory.
Both Captain and Lieutenant studied the Star Charts. They knew a new planet would be needed to regroup, restructure, and rethink their attack on the Doggelganger’s commander, Bark Vader. The Katnippewlans that had stayed behind would need reinforcements ASAP. There were only a few perches left that were well hidden from the Doggelganger canine’s keen sense of smell.
Lieutenant Van Mouser’s orange eyes narrowed at the screen. He suddenly pounced on a blue-green dot and exclaimed, Captain, here is our new cat post!
Captain Luke Sky Whiskers studied the blue-green dot and watched as the charts began to give in-fur-mation on the planet. The screen conveyed that the clan could breathe the air and drink the water, and the temperatures were identical to that of Katnippewla’s. There was however, a glitch in this discovery and that was the fact that it was inhabited by humans. Two legged, furless creatures that walked upright and made pets of dogs and cats. Many of the Katnippewlans descendants from long ago, when the planet came into existence, became trapped there and were forced to adjust to the pet
environment. Luke toyed with the mouse as he remembered his hiss-tory lessons and pondered how they would enter Earth undetected.
Captain and Lieutenant studied the in-fur-mation and concluded this would do. It would have to, the Katnippewlans’ existence depended on it.
Lieutenant Van Mouser then set a course for the planet called Earth. He set the coordinates, the time of arrival, and scheduled catnaps for the crew before embarking on the planet. Then, he went over ideas on how to enter the Earth’s atmosphere without drawing attention to themselves. Van Mouser then set the Cat Scratch-Fever ship on cruise control and stretched his grey tabby body from the tip of his grey tail to the tip of his grey whiskers. He sat there totally exhausted from the excursion and began to drift off into a catnap of his own when the Captain said, Van Mouser, why don’t you go take a well-deserved rest. I’ll have another clan member monitor our course.
Van Mouser didn’t argue. He didn’t have the strength to do anything but slink away with his tail dragging behind him as he headed towards his quarters.
Van Mouser had been by the Captain’s side since the beginning of the Dog invasion.
Luke Sky Whiskers watched Van Mouser with a sense of brotherly pride for his comrade. Luke knew purr-fectly well this mission would be doomed without Van Mouser’s knowledge of the Star Charts. Luke was aware of the upcoming dangers of landing on the planet called Earth, but it was the closest inhabitable planet the vessel could reach in a short amount of time and time was exceeding purr-cious. The Cat Scratch-Fever purred towards its destination, the planet called Earth.
While Van Mouser slept, Luke padded through the ship checking in with his clan members. He observed their posts and their physical well-being. Most were exhausted from the scurrying panic attack they had just gone through. Some had nervous twitching tails and jumped, hissed, and extended their claws when Luke startled them. Still, they were all counting their cat-nip blessings. They had gotten away from Bark Vader unnoticed and once they found a new Scratching Post Command Center, they would construct a plan to capture Bark Vader and the Doggelgangers and take back Katnippewla.
