About this ebook

Take the time to join the author in traveling through the storms of life that capsized his lifeboat before he asked Jesus to be his Capt
Charles Edwin McMullen
Charles Edwin McMullen was born into a secular-humanist family, where both of his parents were teachers but, tragically, were not born-again believers. As he struggled against the lies that he was told to accept as truth, his searching heart forced him to reach outside of the atheist church he was brought up in for the truths of God. Leaving his parents' church, he found Jesus and salvation-after achieving a B.A. in Liberal Arts and while working as a janitor in a Bible-believing church. He was saved and baptized there without his parents' approval and also without their attendance. However, Jesus was there and will always be with him in his life!

For Christ’s bride—which is His church--
and for Luisa--the bride which He gave me.
Acknowledgments
In all fairness, it was my father, who had a PhD in Linguistics, and taught many years in university on the subjects of Chaucer, Freshman English and the History of the English Language, who gave me my love for languages—and especially the English language. The unique treat of starting my freshman year at an English grammar school (Raynes Park Grammar School) in London, England, gave me a great reason for later majoring in English, and minoring in History at Cornell University—located in Ithaca, New York. And, certainly, the exposure to all the great history of Great Britain during the October break in 1967 allowed me to see, at age fourteen, many monuments and historical sites that stand out there. I know that seeing my first Roman bridge in Northern England was a real treat to me!
In all of this, I would be amiss if I didn’t mention my search for God and meaning in life, even as God was calling me to Him. Even though I failed to find ultimate meaning in life at an excellent Ivy League school like Cornell University, I also would be amiss if I didn’t give a shout-out to my fellow students at Cornell, guys and gals, who always reminded me that good-enough
was never good enough; that always striving to be the best in whatever field one chose was the only way to go!
I must thank my parents, who are now gone, for encouraging me to apply to Cornell University and for their constant support and encouragement until I finally graduated. As I came off the high
of graduation day in May 1977, I was then stuck in the quandary of what direction to go in life from there. In fact, though things seemed rosy
at this point in my life, I was now, actually, in a very dangerous position. A huge fork in the road
loomed before me. Without God in my life, which way was I to go?
My dad, who graduated from high school at age sixteen-and-a-half.
Dad’s 2002 Newspaper Obituary.
I had the coveted
degree, and had even been encouraged by the believers on-campus that I had known at Campus Crusade for Christ. However, at this point in my life, I still had not made a personal commitment to Christ. As Jesus alluded to often in his earthly ministry, it is harder for a rich person
to enter the kingdom of God than others. However, I acknowledge that fifteen years later, when my life had reached the bottom and I was at a standstill, that Jesus finally got through to me and saved me from myself, my fallen nature, and my ungodly worldview.
It has been an uphill climb since that day in 1992 when I asked Him to come into my life and be my Savior and Lord, but I know now that I am moving in the right direction. In fact, come this December, it will be thirty
